But then you have to review the reviews as you cannot trust it to be right every time.

Mandatory disclosure of AI generated art assets seems like a bare minimum standard, and very easy to implement, that would put many of your customers more at ease.

I would also suggest that publishers who try to get AI generated content into BGA without disclosing it to you should no longer be your partners and their games removed, since that would be an obvious breach of trust and goodwill between you, and those publishers' behaviour foment frustration among your customers. Like if a certain cat game publisher would insist their obviously AI art is somehow a special case exception and does not need to be credited as such, just as a hypothetical example.

I can see a lot of passion, and it’s great to see how much everyone cares about the future of the site.

Finding the right balance for the future of BGA is tough. There are no magic solutions, I wish there were, and no decision has been made yet but when we do, we’ll let you know.

For now, rest assured that I am taking your feedback, especially the concerns around AI, back to the team. The whole point of the survey is to "read the room" and hear what you really think, and we’re seeing it.

Thanks again for being so honest about it.
Although I have concerns about vibe coding the website itself due to concerns about reliability and stability, when it comes to games themselves anything that is pure AI art should be jettisoned. To be clear, there is NO ethical use of AI in the artistic space. I pay my subscription fee to play games made by human artists with a passion for the human creativity that board games represent. If we start to see more blatant clanker nonsense like Catatac, then I will have to seriously reevaluate whether I want to continue supporting BGA.

Things to not do

AI slop - financially funding and partnering games with generated assets instead of artists. I can imagine some scammer putting some game together without any real design at any level and then trying to partner with the site. You gotta be discerning on who you work with.

AI gameplay training - selling or using player data on gameplay to train a LLM. Players do not want to play competitively against someone using a LLM for decisions, even if the LLM probably won't be very good. You can design bots of various difficulties for boardgames using rules and programing, and there is also solo modes to enjoy. Ethically we don't want to see an option to poison the world environmentally so someone can play with themself.

For people who care about games using AI Art, there are two suggesion reports on the subject. Upvote and comment if you agree with either.

This one calling for No AI Art on BGA

And this one asking to inform users of any games using AI Art on to label them as such.
