I am trying to understand a strange League Point (LP) calculation
I just experienced in Arena mode for Hive (a 3-league system: Bronze, Gold, Elite).According to the basic rules for a 3-league setup, beating someone two leagues above you (Bronze vs Elite) should give a flat +5 LPs. However, my match history just showed a sudden drop in points against the exact same player.
Here is the exact timeline of what happened:
Match 1 (Bronze vs Elite): I started the season with 1500 AES and 1 Bronze LP. I played against an Elite player (Player 1) and won. I received +5 LPs (bringing me to 6 LPs). This perfectly matched the league gap rule.
Match 2 (Bronze vs Bronze): I played a Bronze player (Player 2) and won. I +3 LPs (bringing me to 9 LPs). This perfectly matched the same-league rule.
Match 3 (Bronze vs Elite) https://boardgamearena.com/table?table=896982088: I was matched against Player 1 (Elite) again. This was a very long, hard-fought match lasting 126 moves. I won the match, but this time I was only awarded +2 LPs instead of +5 LPs. This win pushed me to Silver league with 11 LPs.
Why did my LP gain drop from +5 down to +2 against an Elite opponent when I am still sitting in the Bronze league? Any clarification on how the math works under the hood here would be highly appreciated!
