Add a "superfast" game mode

Post by boardgamesmue »

Hi,

I'm wondering if the devs could add a "superfast" game mode, that is even more strict on the timer. Even with "fast" a lot of players are kinda slow and take over 20/25 minutes while proper players achieve at least below 10 min, sometimes even below 5min. It's quite annoying to wait that long if you're fast player and the slow players are often enough complaining once they loose due to running out of time.

If we find enough players that like faster plays, we might convince the devs easier to implement it for Arena.

I don't think it's going to happen, but it would be nice. Not even playing with players who have 300+ ELO is a guarantee that their time played won't be 30+ minutes, it's very annoying.

I am wondering: Are you talking about the whole game, or what else?

There are already several requests for a blitz mode in general, maybe you want to vote for them?

Since this is part of the general BGA framework, I don't think this could be implemented for a specific game ignoring the others.

Thanks for that hint, that might be worth bumping.

Okay, this "proper" players remark got me triggered a bit and made me look at your elo.
You seem to have peaked a little over 400, but are now back down too 200-250 range.

No offence, but is your primary goal to play fast?
Because it seems to me your winrate could improve ( a lot) by taking a bit more time and thinking through your turns.
Unless you assume you manage to play perfectly in those 5 minutes?

Look at replays on some of the best players, that also configured animation to be instant for example. Unless there are a lot of calculations and forwarding thinking, the pace is mostly superfast.

So it would be beneficial to get the superfast average time for both to be capped at around 10min instead of the 25/30 minutes we see sometimes.

Some people prefer to play well rather than play fast. This will mean different speeds for different people.

Yes, some of the best players can handle instant speed and still play very well.
But even those will sometimes take a bit more if its a complex situation.
Not all hands play themselves and you better be sure they will take their time if the situation calls for it.
Some have thousands of games under their belt.

Fast play comes from insane game knowledge and simple situations.
Just because you play fast doesnt mean you play well.

It would still be beneficial to provide that option. No one is forced to choose superfast if this person doesn't want to play below that average timer. But for those that would rather finish more games in the same time it would be helpful.

Are there a lot of people who want a super-fast timer on a 3.80 Complexity game?
