Getting to adjust the dice for multiple low numbers

Post by stikelrw »

There is an existing rule that I like where you can change all but one 1 to any value of the die. This mitigates some of the weakest rolls. However, there are other weak rolls, such as having more than two 2s or more than 3 of any number. It would be nice to be able to change the extra dice in these situations too.

If the total is very low, such as an 8 by getting 2 2 3 1, it would be nice to be able to adjust 1 die as well.

Interesting proposal! I personally like the rule as-is. It's a pretty elegant way to rescue the worst rolls without killing the tension, and it's rare enough to become its own little strategic moment when it does happen.

My hesitation with expanding it: the more rolls you can fix, the less it feels like a dice game. And smoothing out the swings tends to favor whoever is already ahead, since variance is what gives the trailing player a way back in.

That said, I'd be super curious to try a variant with your rules. Could play completely differently than it reads. Cool idea.
