AK vs 22

Post by Romain672 »

Hello,
Here is an extremely interesting spot, someone having AK, and the other one 22.

In 38% of cases, you will find no A/K/2 on the table, and likely will need to know river which hand is stronger than the other one.

How are you doing it? There is a lot of ways to send informations with both of those hands, and I'm curious to know yours before I tell you mine.

In theory 22 should take the higher chip. But since AK will defend it and it will get hard to distinguish between AK and another low pocket like 33, it's tough. If there is a lot of flight for the high chips, I sometimes will just take a lower one and depending on the community cards will readjust in the following rounds, when it's convenient. Best case is, a 3 shows up, then you're safe to adjust accordingly.

Simple. In signaling ranges, and logic I'm using, PP is 6 (5 in a game with 5 players), and A is 5 ( 4 in a game with 5 players). So in this case AK is top possible 5, and 22 is lowest possible 6. Easy to signal, easy to know. One of benefit's you get if a PP has its own chip and rest cards are divided into equal ranges (by card values, not probabilities the Wiki/AI provided).

As much as tarongots "solution" sounds reasonable, it doesn't help the problem at all.

Why is this?

His way clearly splits AK vs 22, but it fails to split 22 from 33 for example. Or AK from AQ.

That being said, whenever you draw the line, you have an advantage when the current situation faces exactly the line. Having a wider range for the 6 chip might be troublesome splitting pairs from Aces, but definetly helps you distinguishing kickers easier.

I dont think you need to split AK from 22, in most cases I get highest chip with 22. If I dont, I pretend to hit bottom pair on the flop, if it is very low, to close out ranges.

No, it's an impossible problem in this game. You can't solve it without using advanced signaling methods that are the equivalent of cheating and break the game.

For example, there are 6*6*6 = 216 ways you can grab a chip and put it back 3 times. There are 169 possible starting hands. If we assign each starting hand to one of these combinations, then the game is completely solvable and there's no point playing at all.

This problem happens whenever there are two hands that are close together. It can also happen when one player has AK and the other has AQ. Both should fight hard for the White 6. If they wind up in the wrong order preflop, the team will probably lose unless a K or Q shows up. It can happen when one player has JT and the other has J9. If they wind up in the wrong order preflop, the team loses unless an 9 or T shows up. There is no universal solution unless you cheat.
