Civolution is now in public ALPHA

Post by Lunalol »

Hello everyone,

Civolution is open for ALPHA testing. The game is complete end to end: all 4 eras, the 15 modules, the 20 Event cards, the 30 activities, the sites, final scoring, and the solo mode against V.I.C.I with its 6 difficulty levels.

What I need from you, in order of importance:

1. Your opinions and suggestions. This is the most valuable feedback and the rarest. An interface can be correct and still be tiresome: tell me what makes you hesitate, what you look for and cannot find, what feels slow or confusing. A usability suggestion is often worth more than a bug report.

2. Your bug reports. Please use the dedicated button from inside the game concerned — the report then carries the table number and the exact moment, which lets me replay the situation. A bug posted on the forum without a table number is almost impossible to reproduce.

3. Your approval. Do remember to leave it at the end of the game. It is what gates the move to BETA, and many testers forget it after playing a full game.

Known limitations of this ALPHA

These are deliberate and documented — no need to report them:
  • 39 of the 160 research cards are held out of the game, their permanent (TOP) ability not being implemented yet. The 121 cards in play have their full effect, instant gain and ability alike.
  • Attribute chips: 10 effects out of 12 are implemented. Only Curious and Mercantile have no effect yet — their tooltip says so — and they may reach the display.
  • The marker supply is unlimited. The rulebook's replenishment (returning markers once all 50 are out) is not implemented.
  • B21 "Magnetoreception": its activity does not trigger the C3 "Navigation" ability.
  • On mobile, tooltips can get in the way — they can be turned off in the options menu, and a touch-friendly rework is planned. Real-time has not been tested yet: feedback on both is especially welcome.
Links Thanks in advance to everyone who takes the time to play, and above all to write.

How Can we get access for it ? I mean without the 750 games conditions

I've already been playing alpha of Rivals and Andromeda's edge.

Thanks!

I own this box and it's some of the best cardboard I own. I cannot tell you how wonderful it is to have ready access to it online like this.

I'm going to try to make a list of small cosmetic and QOL improvements I would make to the interface. Although it is already excellent, a game this complex can benefit disproportionately from minor changes. I think the first area that springs to mind is adding some 'texture' to the UI, particularly when hovering over components and interactable elements. But I'll make a careful list of where exactly I feel this is noticeable.

Thanks to lunalol for what must have been a massive amount of work.
