Bug report interface problem : checking is too convoluted

Post by Phoxtrot »

Ok, so GWT El paso is crashing, there is a link to the bug interface and the bug interface says this:

"New reports have a lesser priority than existing ones. Please check if there is already a report on the same subject and vote for it instead."

The problem, is that on that page, you cannot see the other reports for the game.
You have to click on "Back to bug list" and there enter the name of the game and then sort by update time or filter by "crash" to see the existing reports.
It should be more direct than that.

You don't think it's a problem ? Just a few more click and letters to enter ?
Think again :

In less than 7 hours, more than 20 people have reported the same bug.
No bug has more than 3 votes (that includes my vote) because no one checks because the procedure to be able to check is too complex and not known by the users.

So tons of users are losing time and when a dev does solve the issue, they will lose time by having to close tons of reports.

This problem, obviously, is impacting tons of games. There are tons of duplicate reports everywhere because checking is not simple enough.

I really thought I tested a while back and it automatically showed the list of bugs so you could search it. I wonder if they turned the automatic search off because it was very slow or caused heavy server load.

Yes, this really needs to be fixed. They screwed it up with the bug UI updates earlier this year and it was noted in a big thread about the changes. They then added a button to see all bugs for a title AFTER THE FACT, after you've submitted a report, but refused to show that button BEFORE you enter a report. It's such a PITA to search for dupes first.

For me, one change can be implemented : Sort the bugs/suggestions from recent to older requests.
Today, the sort is from most voted request to less.
If the problem is new, it is not shown even several peoples have already created the same type of request.
In the sort that I propose all the new bugs are visible in the current page before creating a new bug.

The problem is : if it is an old bug/suggestion with a lot of votes, it is not visible with my sort.
A more visible button should be added to have the current sort (most voted).
