Dragonflies scoring

Post by ejlizard »

In this game: https://boardgamearena.com/table?table=908234792

I don't understand how one set of dragonflies is worth 60 points and then a single separate card is worth 60 points. I only see the max of 50 for a set. Plus why would a separate card be worth 60 on its own? Is that just a display bug?

It's a display bug where the Exmoor dragonfly says "this card is worth xx points" and the original dragonflies all say "Your set of Dragonfly cards are worth xx" but there is no double counting

Good to know but why is the set worth 60 and not 50?

first you need to understand dragonfly scoring

dragonflies score as sets of different species.

you have 3 dragonflies of species a, b and c - this is a set worth 10 points.
you put another 3 dragonflies down, also of species a, b and c - this is your second set worth 10 points. so 10 + 10 = 20 points in total.
when you add another 3 dragonflies of species d, e and f, then you increase one of the 2 sets to 6 different species, which will make it worth 50 points. so 50 + 10 = 60 points in total.
if you add another dragonfly of one of the first three species, for example a third one of species a, then this starts a third set - which is worth 0 points in the beginning with only 1 species.

so in the example game that you showed this is what I see. one full set worth 50, another one with three species worth 10 and 1 more standalone dragonfly worth 0.

secondly you have to understand what the texts when hovering over the cards mean. it always shows the total points of all dragonflies / dragonfly sets. it could be more explicit stating something like "this card is part of your dragonfly set #1 worth 50 points.", "this card is part of your dragonfly set #2 worth 10 points." and so on. But: that's not the case. it shows the total points of all sets, which can be confusing if you haven't figured it out yet
