Last turn notification or banner

I'm sure I'm not the only one who doesn't notice when I just played the last tile until it was too late?

There's so many last turn banners in a myriad of other games on this website that I also play that I don't remember there isn't one for Carcassonne until my last turn is over and I didn't get another tile. This hurts me all the time because I don't realize it's my last tile and play it like normal rather than try to scoop up some points on a small field of 1-2 cities (or more if possible).

What's so special about the last tile though?

Especially in "strategic variant", is it the last tile or the last 3 tiles ?

The player panel does show how many tiles are remaining right? I've never had a game end unexpectedly from not knowing how many tiles were left.
