Kicking opponent out in minus 10 seconds

Post by YUGII »

How did you guys let a bug go when a player can intentionally kick opponent out in less than 20 seconds by spamming the button?

Happened to me at least 5 times, always at the last move when they know they are about to lose.

What do you mean, "spamming the button"?

Were you over your allotted time or not?

They didn't. It doesn't work that way. If you go over your time, you're given a 20-second window to correct it the first time. The next time, the grace window is smaller. And if it happens again or if you go over either of those grace windows, your opponents can kick you from the game because you didn't stick to the time you'd committed to.

You have no recent time violations. For someone who can't meet his turn time commitments, he needs to choose a game with longer turn times.

Does the window also get smaller if the kicker cancels and clicks again?

I had a look to see if I could provide feedback. Unfortunately, as soon as I pulled up your profile, all I saw was your feed comments calling people p*ssy, moron, and coward.

That is definitely not the best way to ask for grace for going over your alloted time :/

One idea is to mention in the game chat at the start of the game that sometimes you need a bit of extra time.

This may prevent your issue.

I've had people go over their alloted time purely because of internet connection issues- so I totally understand how it can happen- but again, try to use the game chat to set the expectation at the start. Worth a try at least!

But people usually don't know at the start of the game that they are gonna run out of time. Seems a bit absurd to announce at the start of every game that you may run out of time. That's true of everyone.

It's not absurd at all if OP has a history of getting expelled in games? In fact, it's quite the opposite - especially considering it bothers him enough to make a forum post about it. "Happened to me at least 5 times"

I'm not saying that everyone do it. Of course I'm saying it just in this specific case.

There is a method that prevents players from booting you from the table 100% of the time: Don't let your timer go into the red. If the turn speed is too fast for you play at tables that give you more time per turn.

I hate the people who are quick on the expel button with a fiery passion. I always block them so they can’t do it to me ever again. If I am going to play a 90 minute game of terraforming mars (regular speed) I want to be able to finish the game. It is way more disrespectful of others’ time to quit a game 70 or something minutes in because someone runs out of time than it is for someone to go 1 minute in the red. When I am playing a huge game like that on my phone, I cannot see the clock as I am playing. Sending a please play faster message is also a way more effective and polite approach than hitting the block button, which covers up part of my screen and occasionally causes an annoying lag not to mention the panic of knowing I have 20 seconds left before the person expels me. Not to mention if the game lagged out or you lost connection and that was your first clue that it is your turn, and now you have 20 seconds to get connected again and make a move or pass or something before you get expelled. As a friendly competitor, I want people to be able to take their time every once in a while in such a very long game. But I don’t want to make it an even longer than 90 minute game by playing in slow mode and allowing every turn to be longer. And don’t even get me started on the people who decide to expel you last minute because they are going to lose. I hope those are literal children because otherwise I don’t understand how they have any respect for themselves as a game player.

If there is one thing that would improve my experience on this website the most, it would be a setting that allows players to set their 3+ player games to require more than one player to agree to expel an opponent. Another thing I think would make sense would be one less player required to vote to end a game without penalty. For example, a player apologized and said they had to leave a game because their child woke up sick. They then went afk. The other player and I would have been fine to let them avoid the penalty but they couldn’t vote to end it without penalty so we had to expel them.
