Increase penalty for quit/timeout in arena

Post by Dannerz »

I have seen an uptick in people rage-quitting multiplayer arena games. I'd like to suggest that the ELO penalty for quitting/timing out to be more severe, for example 2x loss of ELO & arena points for quitting instead of just playing the game out. I'm sure this has been discussed in more detail on other threads but it's getting quite frustrating when people quit 95% of the way through a game just because they didn't get the action choice they wanted.

Make the penalty more harsh.

Thank you,

And what will that change? Will people stop doing that when penalties will be doubled? I don't think so. Beside there are much bigger problems with Arena and regular games then not harsh enough penalties. Problems like cheating, bug using, stalling kingmaking, using multi accounts - those are much bigger problems and that what BGA staff should start doing something about.

If people are rage quitting, there's a good chance they care about their Arena score, so making the loss of points bigger would negate their reasoning for quitting.

But those issues are harder to detect and do something about. Fighting quitting has simple solutions, so why not do it.

And that is excuse to not to do it? Solutions to many problems are simple just BGA staff doesn't care of doing that. For example: fix bugs so there will be no bug using. It is simple so why not do it?

As for "fighting arena quitting" that solution changes arena logic. If you are right and person who rage quit will still play in arena, their's opponents will get less for winning and lose more for losing, because that player's arena score was affected by "non playing factors". So is not that simple as you claim.

I don't know if quitting affects arena score for winner, like it does on ELO, since no one leaves arena games I play. But even if that affects only ELO it is still a problem, that for once would be nice to hear what idea BGA staff has to solve. And like usually it will be silence, so you and others can again argue, produce solution, spite each other, and do all what you do in this kind of topics, that appear very often. It still has minor value and it is pointless until BGA staff will start doing something on this and many other matters.

Of course not. But you are the one who was like "why should we do it?" when the solution is right here. For the problems you list, it seems that people are struggling to find working solutions. The problem is not their willingness to do it.

Bugs are solved all the time. Of course there's constantly bugs that remain, but that's generally a case of they just haven't gotten around to fixing it yet.

I agree there are some cases where they just don't seem to care to put in the work. There was a recent thread about Kingdom Builder that was one such example. In this case, I agree with you.

The same thing happens any time you are playing someone whose score doesn't reflect their "true level" though.

If the solution is to be implemented, the obvious implication is that the number of quitters would greatly reduce (if it didn't, then the solution would not be very effective and we might as well ditch it). So, that means the problem you are talking about would be fairly rare.

I don't agree at all. Its not lack of time its lack of willingness. Bugs on BGA side are not fixed at all. I have reports that are 2 months old. Things that can be fixed in hour max. Simple lack of translations bugs. You can't convince me that in 2 moths no one found a hour to fix it. And there are bugs much older. Whole voting on bugs policy and pretend to fix one with most votes is absurd at it's basics. Bugs are either bugs or they are not, there is no room for voting there. You can vote on proposals, bugs you just fix.

And that just the start. I can't name a single new feature, single real improvement made on BGA level in years. Games are added so you think things are going on, but that is not true. Game aren't made by BGA staff.

Also for 2 months I can get simple answer to question: "who made change of The Gang game ELO system", what are its parameters and rules, and when reported bug that makes you LOST ELO for WON game will be fixed.

If I did I will find more things like that. But I think that is enough.

So no I'm not interested in "simple more harsh punishments for arena quitting" where I don't think it will change anything, and when there are more important matters not adresed for YEARS.

If it's so easy to remove bugs, why don't you join the volunteer forces working on implementing and improving games, ... ?

Classical passive-aggressive response. If you want yourself, join.
I don't have to explain myself to you or anyone else, and I don't intend to. It's simple, they just have to want it, and do it.

I was under the impression that anyone with language fluency can fix translation issues, but I might be mistaken.

Maybe. If given access to that feature. But in quoted phrase I meant that phrases are not in translation system, and that bug can be fixed only by BGA developer.
Also in matter in the area you are referring to is eve worse. Not "anyone with language fluency" can translate, just "anyone" can do it. "Language fluency", understanding of the context, minimum level of professionalism is not required.
