Map D and new movement option

Post by GTSchemer »

A new build has been released with a few features.

* Thanks to the hard work of TomKy and others, premade Map D is approved by the publisher and now available for all player counts. It is intended to be generally symmetrical and balanced. You can see images here: https://boardgamearena.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=50079

* The laws tab is now called "Cards In Play". In addition to laws, it now shows promissory notes in play like Support for the Throne, and Trade Convoys.

* Table host custom setup was intended to be restricted to Friendly Mode only. This has been corrected. It may be a little confusing if you are using the Play Now table creation system, because you may need to choose turn-based mode before switching to friendly mode. Otherwise, you may get an error about real-time friendly mode being blocked. As far as I know, this bug still exists, and that is why there is an error preventing invisible real-time friendly table creation: https://boardgamearena.com/bug?id=21294

* Experimental options have been added to the Tactical Move Style preference. These may reduce the need to move the map during movement planning. If you want to try them and give feedback, you can click the gear icon to open options, then choose one of the sidebar "auto focus" or "quick focus" items:

Note that "Box on map" is an old GUI style from alpha testing. It is preserved for players who may prefer it.

During movement, the sidebar auto focus options animate the map towards the current hex. The quick focus options instantly pan the map to the current hex. It is easier to understand with an example, or trying it yourself.

If you activate a system to plan a move like this:

As soon as you choose your home system to move units from, the map pans to center it:

As you plan the movement, the map continues to pan automatically:

This movement may be disorienting for some players, so you have to choose it as an experiment if you want to try it. Let me know what you think.

Another note: Players can now start the game with infantry in the space area if they wish. You can do this by clicking a planet during setup, then adjusting the infantry count.

Advanced players may wish to do this in order to avoid the rare situation of Plague being played against your home planet. However, be careful if you are a faction with only 1 carrier. Starting with too many infantry in space might cause you problems if you move your only carrier too early.

Has anyone tried the new movement option that scrolls the map as you move? Did you like or dislike it?
