The playing hours filter is unnecessary

Post by Yoperbig1 »

As stated in the title, just get rid of this filter. The clock takes care of this issue in turn based games. When I wake up I will play my turn. It's just a silly feature.

At least make it a filter that can be turned off.

Isn’t the purpose of the playing-hours filter to let people joining a game know when the other players are likely to be active?

Even though it’s turn based, I enjoy games more when both players are online around the same time. I can make a move, they can respond, and it feels almost like real-time play while still having the flexibility to step away for work, errands, or a break.

I use the filter specifically so anyone joining my game knows roughly when I’ll be awake and playing. If our schedules are completely opposite, the time between turns can become very long and, for me, that makes the game less enjoyable.

I can understand making the filter optional for people who don’t care about playing hours, but I wouldn’t want to see it removed completely.

Or, just as important:

Fast turn-based games have a max time bank of 12 hours. If someone has a typical 8-5 job, and wakes at 7:30 to shower, eat breakfast, commute to work, and then commutes home, arriving home at 6 PM, that's 10.5 hours of running clock. That's assuming the player was able to squeeze in a move during that morning routine.

The 12-hour window allows that player to set a window of 11 AM to 11 PM, for example, and then can make a few moves during munch, and several more after arriving home and relaxing. And then the person can go to sleep around 11 PM, knowing that the clock won't be running until lunchtime the next day.
