I agree, the current UI is extremely unpleasant on my phone. The cards take up 4 times as much space as the map. It also seems like there's no way to make the map larger, I can only zoom in on the fixed viewport, so it feels like looking at the board through a periscope.

It would be *really* helpful to make the cards smaller and the map a lot taller, or possibly rotated by 90 degrees to better fit on a portrait device

IMO a good effort was made to make the game playable on smartphone, it will never be as comfortable as on a PC.
Did you also try the new cards layout options?
The peculiar size ratio of this game's map makes it too small if you want to see it all (or a large part of it) on a smartphone; I prefer to see only a part of it, in portrait view, scrolling horizontally as needed.

A selection/option to have the map rotated by 90° could be helpful, to see the full map, but I guess it would imply a lot of development, I'm not sure that the advantage would be worth the effort, and it would not be used when the full game (EF+SF+WF) will be available.

on my smartphone it helps to use just a small map on BGA and then to zoom the screen.

the situation with big cards is a bit tricky, but usually - after playing a card - one only needs a small part of the map (to place a piece or to attack)

this is manageable by enlarging the map on BGA showing only the region that is needed.
