Is 2 player fun?

Post by kurrgan »

Love this game for a long time. Always had a lunch group of 4. Like it that way. Disappointed arena is always 2p but I guess I've never tried it. Is it fun that way? I looked at the rules for 2p once but never tried. Opinions please from folks who have played several times both ways.

2p is quite a different game. The ability to have two pawns/turns per round and ultimately to be able to sequence up to four turns in a row changes the play-style quite significantly. It's still the same game, but much more focus goes onto planning and chaining turns together rather than simply finding the best move for the current situation. In turn, that makes spotting and disrupting your opponent's plans more important.

I find it fun, but it does require significantly more planning to do well. In a four player game, just spotting the perfect move can work out (though obviously isn't generally enough on its own to win). In a 2player game, just looking at what's available when your turn comes up will see you finishing second over and over.
