So, if a player finishes a turn with low clock - which can happen in Ark Nova - and the opponent then triggers break, no time is added back, but the clock start ticking down again?

If that's how works at present, that seems problematic.
Break activities are not considered either players turn is the reason why I think, but I think it would make sense to add time. The same when the opponent pilfer etc you don't get any extra time to respond. So if you used all your time on your turn and the opponent does one of these such actions you would suffer a timeout potentially.

If you let your timer run down to 0:00 and then something happens... well, that's on you.

I'm not saying it shouldn't be changed, I'm just saying that's the way it works now, and it's the same for everyone.
As per tisaacs (bgas developer of the game on this site iirc) this sounds like a bug, so it's good op has reported it here and this discussion will likely lead to fixing it.

Whilst were at it let's fix the marketing token in the break bug too as bastien has confirmed this is not working as intended as per rules on bga atm.

FrankJones's point about fast real time is the key one. Chess clocks solved a similar problem with a small increment added for every forced action, and the same idea would fit here: a fixed bonus, for example 20 or 30 seconds, whenever a player has to act outside their own turn because of an opponent's move. It keeps the clock fair without rewarding slow play on normal turns. Reporting it as a bug with a game table number, as Tisaac suggests, gives the developers a concrete case to reproduce.
