If this is true, I will never play this as I won't support paywalling game content. I say this as a person who has been a premium user for years.

Premium users get the ability to start premium games and get some QoL upgrades like auto-color preference selection, stat tracking, and custom avater usage. That's been the business model for years. Free users could always join the full version of premium games, albeit with longer queue times since they couldn't start the game.

Paywalling actual in-game content is a major deviation from the business model BGA has established from the very beginning of the website and it seems to only apply to this one game. This should be sounding the alarm bells for all free users as to what to expect going forward.

Locking free users out of content HURTS the paid subscribers. Fewer free users queueing up results in longer queue times for the paid subs. In this game, it also creates an imbalance of possible faction opponents when you're in a game with free subs. You're not going to get as much of a game variety if you get matched with 4-5 free users every time. That makes for a worse product.

If this is true, it an AWFUL move in all aspects.
I just encountered this and was just as baffled, this messes with game balance, if you know an opponent can't counter pick you a certain faction you get a pretty hefty advantage

I agree, I have been a premium user for almost a year now. I was going to play give TI a try but after hearing this why would I? Its not even that im trying to make a point or be stubborn, there is just genuinely to reason to play this if its even slightly pay to win.

Will there ever be a way for premium members to pay to have access to all the factions for their tables? I want to play with IRL friends and they don’t have memberships. Awesome job otherwise! So excited to finally play this game.

Gentlemen... This game is... well.. it's HUGE. I host a monthly game, and the amount of rules clarification and "hold on while I look this up" is constant, and we play ALL THE TIME. The amount of time that it took to get this thing up and running is a staggering amount of resources, that BGA is trying to encourage people to give them a couple of dollars is absolutely within reason.

Also, remember, we now will all clamor for PoK, and eventually for Thunder's Edge... and implementing each of those will be the same, if not more work, then the base game... so settle down, pay for premium membership os BGA has the resources to continue developing the rest of Twilight Imperium and when you are sad that others cannot play more then the base 6 races, just day-dream of all the hours spent getting this thing online... and remember no one should have to work for free, least of all the excellent gentlemen who work to bring us online board games!!! they should be the highest paid among us!

Again... PAX MAGNIFICA BELLUM GLORIOSUM!!!
