I took a game from a guy who got six points from the same flock. Six! I’ve played thousands of games and have never personally achieved six in a single flock or seen it until this week. A good house rule would be to make six of one flock a win condition.
However, currently, those are not the rules.
Because of this, the ONLY value those extra birds have late in the game is for playing and capturing a line of birds on the table. It’s extremely tempting to send them off, but unless you’re emptying your hand, gaining birds past the requisite three is a strategic mistake. You are literally giving away your hand flexibility for nothing.
The game can be decided by micro decisions like this in the final few turns. Until the rules change, don’t bother going past three birds of one kind!
