Winning means nothing in arena

Post by rocknrollmomma6 »

I just won with a score of 41 and every single row in its own color. You'd think a score like that would've boosted me up into platinum from gold...but no, it earned me one notch closer to platinum and that's IT! What a ripoff!

I wouldn’t think any such thing. The size of your win never has anything to do with how much Elo you get or how much it advances you in Arena or anything like that. Winning by 1 is the same as winning by 100. When it comes to standings here (and, frankly, most places, including sports standings etc), you win or you lose and that’s that.

That's absolutely not true. Lots of games on here have weighted results for winning based on the difference in score and how the other player is ranked compared to you.

How the other player is ranked compared to you? Yes, absolutely, I never denied that.

But difference in score makes no difference. Your Elo will change exactly the same whether you win by 1 or by 100. Your ranking in Arena changes exactly the same whether you win by 1 or by 100.

If you still disagree, show me what you mean.

Arena ranking does not just move one increment at a time. I've jumped 20 or more at a time in some games.

You started this thread (three months ago) with the claim that your blowout victory should have gotten you a bigger boost in your rankings. All I have ever said in this thread is that the magnitude of your victory (41 points or 1 point difference) doesn't matter when it comes to how your ranking is adjusted at the end of the game.

I never said there weren't other factors. I never said the change in rankings was always one, or even always the same. Just that a 1-point squeaker is treated the same as a 41-point blowout.

You keep disagreeing, but never actually providing anything contrary to what I'm actually saying (versus what you seem to think I'm saying)...
