Giving up in last turn/end game

Why are people giving up just before the end of the game.... is there an advantage for them?

The winner takes full credit, so no advantage: they just save (very little) time

That's annoying in another games, too. I like to see the final scores. I had 3 games I knew I lost long before the end because of blocks, but I still try to get as many points as possible. Such giving up should take -1 from reputation. It would likely be rare then.
