We're going to SPIEL Essen 2026

Post by BalGAmor »

It's almost time for the biggest board game event in the world: Essen is hosting SPIEL once again, and we're going there!

It's hard to believe it's already been a year since we met so many of you at SPIEL 2025. The memories, the games, the conversations, we can't wait to do it all again.

This year looks a little different though: the virtual table is everywhere, and we're embracing it. No booth this time, but our hosts will be wandering the convention aisles in person, and you can challenge them for a shot at winning some fun little gifts.

But here's the thing: you don't have to be in Essen to be part of this.

We're going with a bang both on and offline. The heart of it is something built for every single one of you on BGA, wherever you are in the world.

Introducing the BGA Battle

A collaborative competition where everyone can take part, whether you're walking the halls of Essen or playing from your couch on the other side of the planet.

Pick your side and help them claim victory:
  • The Blue Bunch
  • The Crimson Crew
  • The Golden Gang
The team page will be live soon, so get ready to pick your colors and rally behind your team the moment it opens.

See you in Essen... and see you on the battlefield.

I am sorry you did not find us.

Six clearly identified members of staff (wearing BGA t-shirts and flags) were roaming the alleys of the show offering to play a game. And the hunt was of part of the thrill...

And I was on the asmodee booth most of the time. I got to talk to many members of the community who were looking for BGA during the 4 days of SPIEL.

I have to say, this online part of the event was very poorly executed. No news item dedicated to it, only a single mention of it at the bottom of one game release. Once you joined there was nothing even enticing you to play more and you had to go and find this page to see your scores. There could have been live team scores on the home page to get people excited about which team was winning.

Every time i checked the page, the teams were in basically the same spot, 52, 50, and 49. I never saw a team change position from 1st or 2nd. No mention of how many players were helping you out on your team, how many total games had been played for the teams, or anything to drive engagement. And then when it ended, equally nothing, no telling who the winner was or a congratulations to the winning team, just the timer changed to "this event has ended".

I usually enjoy events, and I hope you will put more thought into the future ones.
Thanks

I completely agree with Mike; last year I happily took part in what BGA offered, but this year has been a complete DISAPPOINTMENT.

I spent quite a bit of time at the fair looking for you in Hall 7, near the Asmodee area. I even asked them for information, but after walking back and forth several times to no avail, I got annoyed and just left... I am completely disappointed with your presence at Essen 2026
