Please use the table parameters if you care about the rating of your opponent

Post by DistantHarmony »

I've been matched into numerous tables with players with much higher rating than me (250+ seems to be the range) who instantly decline to start the game. I have good Karma, never say anything in game but GG after the game, and can't think of any other reason this would occur so frequently.

If you are unaware, you can click on the icon (in the red box in the screenshot below) to pull up the "Restrict table access" panel.

In the panel, you can restrict players by their approximate BGA rating.

From the BGA FAQ:
ELO classifies players into 7 distinct classes:

Beginner (0 ELO)
Apprentice (1-99 ELO)
Average (100-199 ELO)
Good (200-299 ELO)
Strong (300-499 ELO)
Expert (500-699 ELO)
Master (700+ ELO)
I'm happy to play any skill level (only way for me to get better after all). It's just frustrating to be paired into 3 or 4 people in a row who insta decline the game, is all

They're likely not premium, which means joining your table is sometimes the only way to get a game quickly and the only way to know your rating efficiently :)

I think you will have more fun by staying at +-1 your level. It also won't stop you from improving : you will learn how to abuse opponents mistakes, which still takes skill.
