Classic Olympia

Post by agzx0 »

They should make the old/classic version of Olympia available in the current (new) edition. All the other wonders are still roughly similar just rebalanced, but Olympia is completely different in the new edition. I’m like 50% joking since it’s probably annoying to implement (and I don’t know if anyone really loved old Olympia) but would be cool to have it as an option.

Edit. In case anyone has not played with old Olympia, side A is that 2nd stage lets you build one card each age for free. Side B is 1st stage lets you trade brown resources for 1 gold and 3rd stage is copy a guild from a neighbour.

Why would it only be olympia? Anything from the old edition is obsolete either way. That is why it is the old edition. Everything we have now are considered improvements by the designers of the game.

Personal opinion: olympia is quite simple now, in the old edtion it was very imbalanced and dependent on your neighbours. Here it is solid, although weaker than average on most situations. I also oppose any non-official changes and add ons on any other games too. Play by the book i say, even though it could feel dumb at times.

Because Olympia is a terrible tableau. The previous version was properly balanced against the others but, to put it mildly, this version of Olympia is worthless. By the time you can build the second stage you are in the second era and have already built brown, green, and/or blue cards. Meaning the only card left to build for free are purple cards of the last stage and even then you only get one card.

As for the other side of the tableau - The second stage is worthless, there is rarely if ever going to be an expensive card left that makes sense to build and that you could not build due to resource starvation. First stage is incredibly luck based - you have to actually get a good, unafforadable card on first draw.
