Do we Like this Version?

Post by hibstarwood »

So guys,

I loved the previous 2 versions and started an Account here because of the real life Version =)

What i dislike about the online Version is that i Must admit that i got quite frustrated playing them online because it was more annoying to lose then in real life. I think that is because in Both Other versions there are Not so many different ways to Build up and really overpowered Cards where the luck can flip a Game.

So far i am really happy with the new Version and would say it is the best one so far.
You really have to Watch your starting Hand and the start of your Opponent .
You can Play many different Build up and have Sucess or Not.
I really have the feeling that i can win with every Build up When i made the Right decission in the beginning and then Play precisely. But When my Opponent also does that and i lose a Game i was Never completly frustrated so far. Of Cause Card luck can be against your or on your side but Even with Bad Cards you can have a fair fight.

I dont think that one Build up is completly overpowered. With all the Right Cards maybe insects could be.

The scoring between 2 equal Players is also quite Even in Most cases.
It is Hard to get higher that 500 against a good Opponent. I got 700 and something in one Game but in Both other versions the Games are in Most cases decided very early.
I have the feel that between equal players the game is often full of tension till the end.

So my. Final statement: Good work, I can’t wait to play it in real life =)

I think to some degree all the Forest Shuffle games are an exercise in frustration, but this is my favourite version on the basis that the different routes to scoring (fish, birds, mice, etc) are all valid and the game isn't just a race to collect as many Deer/Butterflies as possible. It seems to rely a bit less on luck and more on how you adapt to the situation on the board.

I haven't played so much of Dartmoor, but in the original game, and even with the expansions, the race to collect certain cards makes it feel a bit like each game is the same, whereas on this one I've won games collecting birds, trees, mice, insects, fish etc, all depending on what is dealt early on and what comes up in the early draws. That makes it a bit more fun than in the original Forest Shuffle where you CAN win a game with bats, but be prepared to mostly just be really annoyed.

The card-combinations are what makes Forest Shuffle interesting and I think the options you have in this game are better balanced than the others.

(I'm not sure about having to put two cards into the cave when you don't have trees at the start. Seems like a sloppy way to get around a problem - I just had a game where I drew no trees in my first 20 cards and it puts you at quite a disadvantage).
