Seasons - end of round question

Post by nhzp339 »

If I have several cards with end of rounds effect, what's the order performed?

e.g.

One card gives me one element if I have <=1 element.
The other produces 1 element.

Now I have 1 element, If the first one resolved first I will have 3 elements, but if the second one resolved first I only have 2.

Thanks for your answer in advance!

The order performed should be the one that benefits you most; since in real-live-play it's your choice.

In a game i just played it was performed that way:
I had both Beggar's Horn(if you have 1 or less energy gain 1 energy) and Horn of Plenty(discard 1 energy; green gives 5 cristals).
When i had 1 or less energy the order was first Beggar's Horn and second Horn of Plenty.
When i had 2 energy the order was first Horn of Plenty and second Beggar's Horn.

Also with other combo's my experience is that it's performed the way it benefits you most.
(So if that's not the case; i think it can be reported as a bug).

Thanks for your detailed answer.
That's really interesting, since judging which order benifits the player takes extra efforts for the programmer, is there any reason that they don't let player choose the order by themselves, for saving player's time?

The order in which the cards are activated during the end of turn phase are actually programmed in a fixed order. The order is chosen in such a way that it should be pretty much benificial in all cases, but in some rare cases the cards might not be activated in the desired order. there has been a big discussion on the bug page about this but from there you can also find that the order in which cards are activated during the end of round phase is:

Carnivora Strombosea
Heart of Argos
Fairy Monolith
Chalice of eternity
Beggar's horn
Horn of Plenty
Beggar's horn
Titus Deepgaze
Dial of Colof
Wondrous Chest
Damned Soul of Onys
Mesodae’s Lantern
Io's transmutter
Ethiel’s Fountain

I believe its programmed like this because the base game did not really have conflicting end of round effects, so it seemed best to just automate this, as also in the rules of the base game nothing is really mentioned about the end of round effect orders. However, in the expansions came new cards with new end of round effects that required more thought about in which order to have these cards activated and also some extra rules that explained how to activate the end of round effects. As by that time the coding was already done it could not be changed without danger of messing up the whole game and or having to shut down the most popular game on this site so we just have to deal with how it was coded in the first place :) (and it still almost always optimal so just many thanks to the programmer(s) whom have worked on this!)

Cheers,
Sawyer
