I've got a question about round robin tournaments.

In this tournament http://en.boardgamearena.com/#!tournament?id=3237 I was awarded second place despite having an identical record to the winner, and beating them in the head-to-head. What determines the tie-breaker? I'm hoping it's not alphabetical order given my choice of nickname

ELO at finishing the tournament... the last tie-breaker is the ELO-

Is there a way to exempt tournament games from use of the time joker? It doesn't seem fair that if a game runs out of time one person gets to win because they used a time joker.

In Backgammon • Play-by-Turn BG on BGA 2 the third encounter on the list is sored at each player 0.5, whereas one player lost because he was out of time and skipped. If I understand it aright that should be 1-0.

However, if I'm mistaken and 0.5 each is correct then the bug shows up in encounter 16! I won also on time and skipping but was credited 1-0.

Quick question, in an elimination game, if it's a tie, what determines who proceed to the next round?

Could we please have a full and clear explanation of how tournaments work - best would be in a post stickied at the top of the Tournaments Forum. I've just gone through 5 pages of these FAQs for about the third or fourth time hoping for the answer to a tournament rules question (I don't think more than one of them has been there)

Things which need to be clearly spelt out are things like:-

1. What is the nature and order for tie-breakers? Is it the same for all games?
2. How do the different time options work? (I didn't understand "fixed time")
3. When does the clock start running? Is it the same for each kind of time eg Realtime and Swiss?
4. What happens when a player runs out of time in the different kinds of time settings - I'm just in my first Fixed time tourney and it appears that it's different when a player is skipped and when the clock is allowed to run down all the way. How is it scored?
5. Odd details (like the fact that in Round Robin all games start at once)

Me again I fear! A fixed time tournament - in other words we have 36 hours each to complete a game of Backgammon. I'm so far ahead in the game it isn't true (seven men off already while he has six stuck in my home table or on the bar!) And he's nearly five hours overtime so I assume he's lost anyway. I skip him, and now the clock isn't running at all so I quit. Result recorded as win for me, but we score .5 points each in the tournament.

That can't be right!
