A must have : a "cancel game launch" button

Post by IdanH »

As i host many through the ages games ,too many times i have had to wait for people to accept the game is long before starting the game , only to wait forever and then having to quit my own game and create a new one.

Some people join and then are away , some may have computer issues , But me as the host of the game must either keep waiting basically forever or quit the game , This is a very strange situation that the host of the game must leave his own game with no other alternative.

I think a "cancel game launch" or an "expel player" button after game luanching , is a must.

What is the difference between "cancel game launch" and "quit your own game"? They both have you creating a table, waiting until you take an action by clicking something, and then you not playing at the table. It seems the functionality you want is already there.

It seems you have never played games for more than two players.
The proposed functionality is needed indeed.

Again, what is the new functionality?

I set up a table.
I wait for the requested number of people to join.
People do not join in a time convenient for me.

I click "leave table." and I no longer worry about that game. Anyone who has already joined the table has the option to continue waiting.
OR,
proposed functionality, I click "cancel table" and I no longer worry about that game, and everyone who has already joined and waited is now stuck without a table through no action of their own.

Please provide a counter-example where the new code will provide a benefit. I'm not against new code, I am just against requests for functionality that already exists.

You open up a table, wait for players to join. Finally, x players have joined so you can fully enjoy that game. So you click on start game. Everybody but one accepts it, this one player now seems to be afk because it took quite a while for everyone to join. But now you can't kick him anymore because the game is stuck on waiting for that one player to accept.

Now you have the option of leaving the table and creating a new one. But wouldn't it be infinitely easier if not all those x-1 players from your old table had to move to this new one? If you could just cancel the starting game thingy to kick the afk player and get just one new player in? No, really not?

The other option would be one of the players who have joined and are there right now leaves the table and rejoins so that the starting mode is cancelled. But that can be quite a hassle because of two reasons:
If now there are quite a lot of people around that table the player who enables you loses his spot because others quickly click the join button.
If this player hits the leave table button at the exact same moment as the other player (now suddenly at the keyboard again after two minutes of nothing happening) accepts the start then the whole game is counted as a forfeit for that poor player who just wanted to help you out. He gets that ugly leavers mark (and loses elo) and you still don't have a proper game.

Those have happened quite a lot, to me, to others in games i have been in, and to more people because it has been a topic on here more than once

Ah. I didn't realize the launch froze at that point. I thought when the game start button was clicked, everyone had a limited amount of time (30ish seconds) to accept before it went back to the main table screen, and the administrator could kick anyone. I know it used to be that way, at least. I guess it's been a while since I played live ;)

Yes. It's changed quite a while ago. (More than a year for sure, maybe twoish?)

That's why the thread opener is completely right: this feature is indeed a must have. The way things are now is dysfunctional.

I'm totally agree with you !! One day, I created a 6 nimmnt game, I found players, I started player but 1 doesn't click on accept. So, I left to allow the new master of table to exclude him. But, the player you has never accepted has probably accept at the same time than me... BGA considered that I left a game and I got it on my profile and my elo went down sooo much because of this

So, this thing is quite important
