Ones in Hanabi, left to right or right to left

I did not see any forum posts specifically discussing this, so let me know if there is one.

In Hanabi, particularly 'Very Difficult' mode, I see some advanced players will play their 1s right to left instead of left to right. But there seems to be debate as to whether this is a useful convention, and it certainly does not seem to be accepted across the board.

Can anyone argue for one or the other?

If you do go right to left, do you apply that even late game?

I play from the right when chop card is a 1 and from the left if it's not.

Reason: If the chop-1 is bad, my team can wait for that 1 to get discarded first, so I can expect the chop-1 to be worthful. That doesn't apply to a x11x position where the chop might be another good card that would be lost if I discard first, so in that situation I would stick to play-left-convention.

In late game it depends on situation a lot. If i recently drew a 1, I would play the new 1. If the game went on for some time and I discarded many cards and suddenly i get a 1-clue on two chop cards (xx11) I would play the chop 1 (same reason as above).
