R1' = R1 + K * (S1 - E1)
This is the formula for the new rating after the game, where R1, R1' - old and new rating of a player, K - K factor, S1 - result of the game (1 - victory, 0.5 - draw, 0 - defeat), E1 - expected result of the game calculated on difference of players' ratings.
E1 = 1 / (1 + 10 ^ ( (R2 - R1) / 400 ) )
R2 - old rating of an opponent.
also
R2' = R2 + K * (S2 - E2),
S1 + S2 = 1,
E1 + E2 = 1.
K = 40 for Race for the Galaxy, I didn't check if it is the same for other games .
P.S. You can substitute corresponding numbers in the formula and allow google to calculate the result for you.

Re: About multiple accounts and ELO boosting
Thanks, and K = 60 for the first 30 games, others are K = 40; at the every game, not overall.demiurgsage wrote:I can.333-blue wrote:So difficult to read the ELO formula, can't anyone explain it again, please?

Same question have Ishamefuluser wrote:My wife and I both play on here, and often I get the flagged notice about two accounts on the same IP -
Should we always just make sure ELO is turned off when we play to prevent being flagged?
Re: About multiple accounts and ELO boosting
"Is there a particular reason you capitalize Elo like ELO? It's not an acronym, it's a guy's name: Arpad Elo."
Many (most?) references use the capitalized form and have done so for decades.
When I began playing chess 50+ years ago we used ELO (caps) and were well aware of the originator's name...as he was a well-known chess master. Chess publications early on used 'Elo' when describing the system and tournaments that used it, but soon after they began using 'ELO'. (reason unknown to me)
wikipedia has it as Elo.

Re: About multiple accounts and ELO boosting
I'm glad to hear that ELO boosting is seen as cheating and that measures are being taken to stop it.
In Can't Stop, I beat the #3 player a while back and since then he's won 47 strait games. That's not suspicious at all. About forty of those games against the same player, hmmm. Maybe top player could win 47 strait games of Puerto Rico, but is it really statistically possible in a game like Can't Stop? Kinda makes me laugh, actually. It's not that it's a waste of time for the cheater, it's a waste of time for everyone who is playing the game and is not getting the rewards that they deserve.
Also, it seems that some players have figured out that the robot turns elo off only most of the time. So, they just play the robot even more than before and about one out of 5 games they get some more elo.
The player in the #1 position; playing the robot exclusively, cheating?.
The player in the #2 position; playing the robot exclusively, cheating?.
The player in the #3 position; as noted above, cheating?.
The player in the #4 position; playing the robot exclusively, cheating?.
Then by some miracle, the #5 player is an actual hard working long time player that deserves the #1 spot.

Re: About multiple accounts and ELO boosting
I haven't created an account for my wife yet... but I was wondering about that too... as she would probably only use the site to play against me.shamefuluser wrote:My wife and I both play on here, and often I get the flagged notice about two accounts on the same IP -

Re: About multiple accounts and ELO boosting
I as well am concerned about this exact issue. I've been grinding out Can't Stop against actual players only to be discouraged by seeing multiple accounts in the top 10 with boosted rating due to obvious cases of playing themselves on alt accounts or playing against the bot exclusively.gdBlaze wrote:I'm glad to hear that ELO boosting is seen as cheating and that measures are being taken to stop it.

gdBlaze is absolutely correct and if you go look at the top 4 playes it's very apparent that the accounts do not deserve to hold the spots they do.

You can do anything you want if you turn ELO off.Derekrledr wrote:I haven't created an account for my wife yet... but I was wondering about that too... as she would probably only use the site to play against me.shamefuluser wrote:My wife and I both play on here, and often I get the flagged notice about two accounts on the same IP -

With ELO on if both of you are outside top 20 you are not likely to attract attention.
Re: About multiple accounts and ELO boosting
Well if those are your cases to play a game with yourself, then i don't see a reason why you would need to be rated for these. You can still play the game with yourself but you won't get as much ratings if you did so its all gucci.Victoria_La wrote:Is this actually against the rules to play against yourself or its against the rules if you use rated games? Because I don't see why you deny multiple
accounts if people are not playing rated games. There are some legitimate reasons to play against yourself
a) To learn a new game. Even with real board games I have to play against myself to learn the game
b) To test a game (For developers)
