I've unfortunately timed out of 2 games recently and my karma is 58% despite the fact that I have perhaps 1000 thumbs ups. Now I can't talk publicly and I get kicked out of games before they start. This seems quite unfair and unkarmic.
Karma is crap

Re: Karma is crap
Same... I joined a game, but everyone were like : Nooo , he has low Karma, he will certanly ruin our game because the Karma system is never wrong!!!! We must leave and never play with that player . Also we should red thumb him.
Litteraly someone gived me a red thumb for having low Karma.

59% shouldn't prevent you to join many games, and if you play games frequently you'll recover easily.tjones wrote:This seems quite unfair and unkarmic.
For your information here is the distribution of the active players :
0 karma : 0.0138%
1-10 : 0.0322%
11-20 : 0.1127%
21-30 : 0.2276%
31-40 : 0.2207%
41-50 : 0.5219%
51-60 : 1.9452%
61-70 : 0.4897%
71-80 : 17.5113%
81-90 : 50.0897%
91-100 : 28.8352%
So basically, 96% of the players manage to keep their karma above 75%. It seems quite fair

Re: Karma is crap
It is almostly impossible to hit 0, but 100.
Re: Karma is crap
I had 0 karma. Even if i am active and good player who is nice to people.
Only because i couldnt play few games, doesnt meant i should suffer for it or others. . .

When the statistics show 17 quits and 30 overtimes in just 61 recent games... the rating should be BAD.xxerox wrote:I had 0 karma. Even if i am active and good player who is nice to people.

Don't quit and play faster... your rating will go up!

Re: Karma is crap
Just finished playing a game of Legendary Inventors where everyone was hit by "internet connection issues" at the same time... so assumedly that is a BGA glitch.
When I could finally have a move, I had to resort to throwing any old inventor out just to scrape by without timing out.
Instead of penalising people in this situation even further, BGA admin should be taking the time and effort spent on faffing about integrating "karma" nonsense and spend it instead on making BGA stable enough to use without it crapping up all the time. All of my timeouts (except one, which was because of a fire evacuation at my place of residency) have been because of dross like the BGA server claimed the other person wasn't playing - but then when the time ran out it turned out that it was me to play first and it was looking to the other person like I wasn't playing, so they kicked me out when the timer ran down. Again, total nonsense which should be repaired instead of further held against people.
Another issue which compounds matters is that BGA keeps having "funny turns" where it takes the notion to stop refreshing... making it look like another player is taking a long time to think about a move, when really it's moved onto my turn but BGA didn't deign to refresh after they chose their move. Again, this results in undeserved time outs.... which this karma ridiculousness is just emphasising like it's something people are doing wrong, rather than a BGA failure.
Maybe BGA itself ought to have a karma rating , which could drop by 30% whenever it does this... then it could slowly earn a good rating back at 0.5% increase per successful game it manages to let people play.
What was wrong with the previous measurement of reputation?
This new karma thing is, I entirely agree with OP, crap.
Nobody can claim that I am only whinging because my karma rating is bad either, because (despite the aforementioned recent antics from BGA software failing) I have 100% karma.
And Xeerox, I never kick folk out of a game for having a low reputation.
People should change the game settings to exclude people with low reputation, if that's what they want - not let people in then be a jerk about it after somebody joins the game. If it makes you feel less picked on, please know that some people are just jerks.... sometimes idiots make a game just to kick out people, or will open a game then refuse to start it and just post drivel in the discussion because they know they can't receive bad feedback from people if they're refusing to play them in the first place. Which is encouraged by BGA admin, if their present setup is any indication.
You could try playing many short games, I recommend Can't Stop for example.... and just rack up a good collection of positive feedback and completed games. Like I say though, it does look like BGA is unquestionably not working properly though - and if it times people out undeservedly then that is just tough luck it seems. Karma.... I don't think that word means what they think it does.... :-p

Thanks, but please know that's it's not a free pass to anything.intrepid wrote:M A CONTRIBUTOR and would love to help finance more so this site could get better.
You shouldn't get upset so easily. Anything takes time, and your rants in the forum don't help (for example, we could get upset about that, because that something you do, not something you don't do because you don't have time, and so it's a much better reason to get upset). But, see, not upset. Well, not too much anyway.intrepid wrote:But right now I'm very upset because for 3 days and 3 reports they haven't found the time to look at game @24822094
That's just your interpretation of what happened.intrepid wrote:in which a player used profanity and gloated that he was above us all because his karma rating said he was perfest.
Just sent you a PM. To be perfectly clear: you are wrong.intrepid wrote:come on bga just email me I'm either right or wrong
