Critical time limit bug

Post by demiurgsage »

I know that there is a bug report system. But it looks like developers completely ignore this bug. It exists more than year. Your time limit can be suddenly reduced at any time. I saw it during real time games and turn based games. I saw it in different games (Race for the galaxy, Seasons, ...). More than half of my time penalties were due to this bug and several times players skip my turns. Often you can see it in Race for the galaxy. You end one phase and your time falls. Sometimes it falls below zero. Also your time can fall without any action. It's difficult to play games when you don't know how much time you can think.

There are several topics in bug report system
Metasite

http://en.boardgamearena.com/#!bug?id=3911

Race for the Galaxy

http://en.boardgamearena.com/#!bug?id=4541
http://en.boardgamearena.com/#!bug?id=2623
http://en.boardgamearena.com/#!bug?id=1742

There are also other topics when players got inappropriate time penalties but in their cases it is probably to blame other bugs.

Are there in Race for the Galaxy some moves, where both or all players have to take an action at the same time?

Then the bug can be related to this Tokaido timing bug:

It seems, that the bug also affects 6nimmt, where on every card selection all players have to select their card at the same time.

Yes, it's the same thing.

And sadly BGA claims they cannot reproduce the "bug" when the players can. It boils down in Tokaido of one player not selecting his/her character initially while the other player does. And thus the time difference occurs between what is reported to each player occurs.

I have found that time limits for some games can be erratic sometimes, yes.
I noticed it most with Seasons because I am just starting out as a Seasons player, and find it difficult to play in time because the timer can jump in big steps down sometimes.

I am not keen on this new heavily time limit based reputation system.
I think a lot of people will be punished because BGA is glitchy, and will feel unjusty penalised.

I think I manage to solve this. I'm pretty sure of this. Sorry for the delay but it was a tough one.

It seems that it occurred when 2 players A & B were active at the same time + both players were taking a long time to think + one of the 2 players were taking a -much- longer time to think.

Can you tell how the timer should work now?
I just played "Race for the Galaxy" on fast settings. The previous issue was solved. But there is a thing I didn't understand. During the 1st phase of the game (explore) I and my opponent had more than 7 minutes everytime. But at the start of the next phase we had little less than 3 minutes. Maybe fast settings don't work correct for race for the galaxy. What's the point to add 5 minutes per round if you can't spend more than 3?

Hello,

"fast" mode is : 3 min start + 5 seconds / turn. As for any other game, this is not possible to have more than 3 minutes (= your initial time to think).

There was a display bug which cause the timer to display more than 3:00 at some time and I just fixed it. It should be fine now.

Hi,
looks that there is another display bug. When you create a table and choose "Fast speed" you can see below selection field description "3:00 + 5:00/turn". It should be "3:00 + 0:05/turn".
