Another thing about the new system is that it makes new players look bad. If you're new, but you've never done anything wrong, why should you have to start out at less than 100%? They're basically being punished for something they haven't done.

New reputation system seems to be unfair for me or doesnt count karma properly. I lost 4 points for giving up tournament games when i only signed into tournament and unsigned after checking date once again before it starts. If you resist of tournament before it start you shouldnt have minus points. Also because of bugged game that couldnt start i had to leave game from games main page where i lost points again and suddenly i see im not 100 % but 80 % now :/ So good players can lost reputation cause of bugs or unfair karma counting...

Yes you can lose karma points becuse if THIS site bugs. Very unfair.
Also why you dont want to return visibility of thumbs? It will make reputation more clear. :?

Amen! I almost said this myself. None of that stuff ever bothered me, and it's not like I was doing any hard work calculating anything. I just glance at the thumbs, leaves and over-times, fairly quickly, and can tell if any are a bad enough percentage for me to worry about. If someone has 300 recent games or thumbs I know 30 is 10% and I can get a rough "feel" from there without doing any math.

I also got to judge for myself what of those things was most important to me, which were the thumbs and the leaves. I'm not as concerned with being over-time unless that amount is just seriously high. The Karma method is basically telling me how I should judge someone. It's deciding for me how important things are, and then calculating and splitting out some percent number that really has no meaning. I'd rather have more figures and decide for myself. In fact, I ignore the green bar and hover over it to get the leaves and over-time cause I'd rather have that... and the thumbs. Why not add the thumbs to the hover as well?

After looking at some players, giving me time to adjust... I don't like that reputation is not affected at all by over-times. Once someone reaches 100%, they could have tons of over-times without it being affected at all. I'm getting a little tired of seeing people with "blemishes" on their record being 100%, and me having a perfect record and being at 91%. Because I mostly only do turn-based, it can take a while to finish another 9 games. (Not playing a lot doesn't make me a worse player. I've got enough games to deserve a better reputation.)

And I agree the multi-leave penalty is really harsh. I don't really have anything new to say on that idea since it's already gotten a number of complaints. But that idea of "invisible points" above 100 has something to it. I don't know if I agree with the details, but there's a good concept in there.

senatorhung wrote:likewise, karma is the idea that "you get back what you put out". there are karmic concepts in the religion of angels ... an eye for an eye ... do unto others. so taking offense at a word because of its religious source, rather than its widely accepted principle, is intolerant and small-minded, especially given the world-wide nature of the BGA community.
Agreed. And especially for the one who doesn't want to play at what is probably Yucata cause of gods, you know most of those are old Maya gods, right? Where's the sense of fantasy? But that said, I don't like the name karma either, but not for any religious reasons, but just cause it sounds odd. It almost sounds like someone with high karma is going to be good luck to you or something. There's really got to be a better name. Although I'd like to see the concept adjusted first, and worry about the name later.

Penalty should be reduced for tournaments. I thought that they were already reduced to 4 points per game, but I was wrong. You can't quit tournament. You can't concede a game in tournament. One 10-player round robin tournament cost you 170 karma. Your opponents lose almost nothing from your quit or concede as they get both a win and ELO points (if the tournament is "Elo on"). Even more now all games in tournaments are 2-players and you can't ruin the game for others. The only reason to deny player concede is using score difference as tie breaker. But if the player can't or don't want to play the game and then do random moves it wouldn't better than conceding. Also I don't think that score difference is good tie breaker as it force players to spend time to maximize score difference against weak opponents. Often 1 point difference against strong opponent is harder to achive than 10 points against weak.

Hi,

In a 10 players round robin you are supposed to play 9 games, so the maximum penalty is 9x4= 36 points.

Considering that in this case you bother 9 other players, I think this is normal to have such a penalty.

Yesterday I was skipped in 2 games in one round robin tournament and got -10 for 1st game and -20 for 2nd game.

This is different : -4 is when you don't show up to a tournament game. If you leave a game in progress you get a normal penalty. But I see your point : as this is a tournament game, time is more strict. I'll see what I can do about this.

I think that conceding should be allowed in any 2-player tournament games. Penalty should be reduced to the same value if player didn't make a move for reasons I wrote above. Also player's turn in tournament should be automatically skipped once his time to think drops below 0. That makes multi-phase tournaments (like swiss) much shorter.
