I personally feel also unjustified punished by the new karma system.
before: ca 900 green thumbs and 2 red ones. I assume ca 10 left games during more than 3 years playing.
Now: 50% karma because I could not finish games due to technical reasons (whereof two I believe were technichal problems on BGA site on October 26th).
I cannot even contribute to translations . What logic do you have to measure reliability in translation with ability to play fast enough and to always have a reliable internet connection?
This new system sucks. I believe more in personal judgement of players than in "objective" validation by algorythm.

I don't like this system either, in particular the fact that your reputation can be destroyed very quickly whatever your global history on BGA.

I usually play turn-based games, having more than 10 ongoing games at the same time. With the "one move per day" speed, I have a thinking time of 5 days, which is more than enough for me in general. Now, if I had to be offline for any serious reason (sickness, accident, family problems,...), I could have my reputation being decreased down to 0% in a few days, after +5000 games played with less than 5 time penalties in 3 years

How can you expect to be able to play again with a "very bad" reputation and no way to justify yourself since you are not even allowed to talk in the chat room? And if by chance someone accepts you at his table, you will not be able to say "hello" or "gg", then you may get a red thumb at the end, which will not help to improve your reputation.
Actually, this is the thing I find particularly harsh, not to be able to chat anymore. This restriction should be limited to players that have been reported for particularly bad behaviour, and probably to a dissuasive but limited period.

I'm not sure if I said it before, but thanks, great thanks for this new system. Eventually, no more large amount of abusive red thumbs . Got some because I was too silent... another because I was not silent enough (!!!!!), got many because I concede on many lost games (with warning and respect, and congratulations to my opponent)

This originally good idea became an ugly non-sense destroying machine because of the very small psychic age of too mnay thumbers (I don't count the red thumbs in Hanabi because mister or miss Babychild is angry after a mistake)

So, thanks again for this new system!

As said before, the karma system can be harmful for players who usually play their moves on time and never leave a game on purpose: they can fall from an excellent reputation down to a very bad one in a few days, if they have to be offline for any reason and are expelled as soon as they exceed their time limit.

On the other side, I can understand why people would expel them:
- obvisouly, in a real-time game, you may not want (or have time to) wait the other player too long
- you may also want to close a turn-based game because you suspect the other player will never show up again (this often happens with new accounts), or you do not like resuming a game after a too long break, or you do not want to have too many pending games that might resume at a time you are not available.

Now, in both situations, you may want to close the game with ou without giving a leaving penalty to the missing player. If their profile says that he is often late (or if you are a poor player who wouldn't shy away from taking this opportunity to improve your Elo :? ), you might be inclined to give one. But if he is someone you have played with before, maybe one of your friends, and you suspect that he has a serious reason not to play at the moment, you may want to close the game without giving him a penalty.

There would be an easy way to allow that:
- keeping the possibility of skipping someone's turn => would give him a leaving penalty (as already the case)
- slighlty modifying the "abandon the game" option so that all players who have exceeded their time limit are assumed to agree to abandon => nobody would get any leaving penalty

This is already the case, for the exact situation you describe. When playing with a friend, you just have to abandon the game and no one get a penalty :)

Oh, great! Thanks! :)
I didn't know that. Is it mentionned in the comment that appears before you confirm you want to expel someone? (I cannot check, I have no table with late players at the moment) If it isn't, I would suggest to add it.

As far as I know a decision to abandon a game never gave a quit game penalty. Before karma system if players voted for abandoning all players who is timed out and offline automatically voted "Yes" and not receive quit penalty if decision was taken.

Now I could see the warning you get before confirming that you want to expel a player (skip his turn). It says:
Skipping a player`s turn is an important decision. This player will get a `leave` penalty and will lose ELO if he/she doesn't come back.
You (and eventually all other opponents) will be considered as winner(s) of this game, and you'll get xx% of ELO points you would have get for a normal victory.
Note that the best option for everyone is to finish the game normally. Are you really sure you want to neutralize this game and skip this player's turn?
Would it be possible to indicate the possibility of abandoning the game collectively? Something like: "... Note that the best option for everyone is to finish the game normally or to abandon the game collectively without penalty (the vote of timed out players will be automatically set to 'yes'). ..."

Until today, I was not aware of this option (abandoning a game in case of a time out) but I will consider it now, for sure. And I hope that other players will do the same :)

NOT a Nice Karma/Reputation system - One day I am at 100%, and the next day I get slammed down to 60% and have games abandoned because of your service outage, probably because of the geographic differences between playing Europeans and the time delays. I'm pretty sure the people I played do not have real jobs and sit around with their phones waiting for someone to make a move simply because they play in fear of being assaulted by a Karma/Reputation system that is highly flawed.

Way to make something that was not really broken completely broken. Bad. You are sending the wrong message with your megalomaniacal attitudes.

We should not reinvent the wheel.

Try actually using the wheel.

In some of your words: Sitting around a game table should be fun and enjoyable for all. You have killed this for many of us.
