His initial request was to remove all the hats on BGA. You can see it in the title of this topic "Please remove Christmas hats", not "remove my Christmas hat", and not "allow to people turn the hat off". If he named topic more tolerant and only asked for his own hat or for possibility to turn hat off, I wouldn't start this discussion.

So your main statement is
Christmas hat has "Christmas" in its name, so it should be associated with religion.
I disagree with that. People don't go to church in Christmas hats. If someone wears a Christmas hat, it does not mean that he is a Christian.
It was an opinion, not ad hominem. We probably have different opinions on what is ad hominem. I said that even if you see injustice or inequity in these hats, you probably should choose another object to struggle with. Because this world has things that bring great and real injustice and inequity. Anyway I didn't mean to insult you.

In my opinion, Christmas is not a religious holiday anymore. All the santa-things, tree, gifts, be-with-your-family, ... are not really related to jesus-stuff, even if some people celebrate the same date as a religious one.
I agree with this.

You should be more tolerant.
Wow. You are super tolerant.

You WILL wear the hats that I want you to wear.

No, TOTALLY unreasonable to allow someone to opt out of it.

In other words, the way YOU choose to celebrate YOUR holiday needs to be inflicted upon everyone.

Very tolerant.

I especially like how the poster said four different times that he considered the issue resolved once he was told how he could remove it (which was all he asked for in the first post) and you beat him down about how really he had no reason to want to remove it.

I'm sure you'll be ok with it then if I come into your house tomorrow morning and tell you that you MUST eat waffles because I like waffles for breakfast. And not wanting waffles for breakfast makes no sense because waffles are tasty.

In his OP he said - remove the hats or make it an option.

Later, he said:

So, clearly, he is fine with Christmas hat as an option.

Enter this into the box:

Code: Select all

.emblempremium {
display:none;
visibility:hidden;
}
Click save and refresh your page.
This feature is not fully supported by BGA. I have got this error message :
Désolé, une erreur inattendue s'est produite...

You cannot access bug section because you are using some custom CSS (see Preferences > Advanced)

I don't want Christmas hat on my avatar because it is a personal design which should not be altered. According to this principle, no member's avatar should be altered. While BGA can offer special Christmas avatars, imposing changes to personal avatars is not proper, in my opinion.

Thank you everyone for your contributions.

As the initial poster request has been fullfiled, there is nothing more to discuss here (at least concerning BGA, you're free to continue the discussion wherever you prefer ;) ).
