Make the "slow play" penalty based around inaction not just a long turn of many actions!!

Post by venedan »

So I am now unable to join games because after playing a game of Seasons in which I literally played 5 power cards in a turn because of chaining powers, having to select an energy token after each one of them due to one card, it put me down as a slow player.

Am I just supposed to play a game sub-optimally to make sure I don't have any turns that take slightly longer than the allotted time?

I mean, I could understand if I sat staring at my monitor and not doing anything for four minutes, I should be penalized. But I was literally clicking and moving as fast as I could, and it just takes time for the page to render and do everything.

If you're going to have a system that essentially BANS people from playing on your site as a penalty for playing "too slowly", at least make it actually impact people who are needlessly delaying a game, not those who are actively playing a game and just because of the nature of the game and the turn had a lot of stuff to do on one turn.

I guess I'll have to sit out my week again and come back when my "slowness" penalty has gone away so I can join games again.

But really, guys, come on. How hard can it be to reset the "slow turn" timer each time someone takes some sort of in-game action?

You guys turn playing a board game into a really anxious experience, and I just don't think it's worth it anymore...

As far as I can see your reputation is 97%, so there's no reason to worry about anything :)

Well, sure. That's nice. I wasn't able to join the one game that was running of the game that I wanted because the person hosting that game banned people with any "slow play" penalties.

Maybe that was one case, but it literally prevented me from playing the game, and I ended up signing off instead.

That's frustrating when I'm not a slow player, I had a long turn.

Not to sound entitled, but if this website is intended to cater to players, then I as a player shouldn't be able to be prevented from joining a game because I took an involved turn on a timer, when there are ways to implement a system that doesn't punish extensive turns.
