You got to 30% max because you got lot's of red thumbs, just like anyone would if they got a lot of red thumbs. The same rules apply to all players.
If you don't want to get a bad reputation, be nicer to people and you won't get so many red thumbs.

They have not demonstrated anything but stating their opinions, and you are claiming to support people's freedom to opinions. Or at least, you're in support of your own opinions and claiming people shouldn't be against you or red thumb you just due to opinions. Therefore it should be OK for these other folks posting to state their opinions and not have anyone against them. If they are not allowed their opinions, but you're allowed yours, that makes you a serious hypocrite.fuonlynu wrote:PLEASE BGA JUST ONCE APPLY YOUR RULES TO THE FOLLOWING SENATOR HUNG AND NEMAYN.tHEY HAVE BOTH DEMONSTRATED THEMSELFS ..
And you're wrong about the red thumb system. If someone states the red thumb is only because they are choosing not to play with you again, that is, just for their own personal reasons, this is just a computerized thing and does not affect your karma. This has been stated in several places. It is only when someone says that "no one should play with this person," because in their opinion you're not a good person to play with, they have to state the reason why, and those do affect your karma. Since this is obviously what is happening (since it's affected your karma), it's because those people are of the OPINION that you are not a good person to play with. It doesn't matter WHY they have that opinion, because they are entitled to their opinion, just the same as you are. If you think BGA should fix this, you're essentially saying you don't want BGA to allow those other players to have an opinion about you. Again, making you a hypocrite.
It's funny, that I am fairly straight-forward and sometimes just plain blunt on the forums, and yet I have zero red thumbs - I've never gotten one. So really, even for someone blunt like me, it's just not that difficult to not get a bunch of red thumbs. I'd actually be darn curious to play Hearts with you and see just what it is you're saying to people. (I can tell you that most people will take the ALL CAPS as yelling, as much as you deny that.)
If your red thumbs are because people don't like your opinions, well, then they don't like your opinions. You have a right to your opinions, and they have a right to disagree.
As a note, as has already been stated, the Karma rules are definitely the same for everyone - there's nothing being applied differently to different people. So while you can dislike how it's done (as do I), you can't say it's being applied in different ways.

Re: reputation or karma
As a new player to Board Game Arena, I'd like the rules surrounding reputation to be revised for new players. I have played ten games so far, and have now clocked up a 61% Not Good reputation as a result of having to leave the game early because of having other jobs to attend to.
Now that I'm better aware of how BGA works, of course I'm in favour of punishing people who like to quit games prematurely for a laugh. I play Dominion online and one of my pet hates is people who sign on for a game and then quit immediately. There is a never ending stream of them who do it and I'm sure that they think they're the first person to do it and that it's hilarious. At times I'd like a "Nuke Player" button for people like this.
However, I'm not one of these players and I genuinely want to participate in games that everyone can enjoy. I have much better things to do in my life than run around ruining other people's board games for a laugh.
The change I'd like to see is for there to be an allowance of say ten games for new (and genuine) players like myself to get the idea of playing on BGA. Instead of immediately racking up punishment points, warnings should be sent spelling out the consequences if this type of behaviour continues. This way players like me can learn what the expectations are without finding ourselves shut out of future games once we have learned the rules.
Ok looking back I could have trawled my way through the forums to find out that there is a thing called reputation and that there are rules around it that affect your future ability to participate in games etc, but to be honest at that point a) I would like to be able to immediately participate and learn as I go and b) I don't have hours and hours to be trawling forums trying to learn all the rules of BGA before I can participate. I'd like to be able to take a learn as you go approach because if I had to trawl mountains of forums before I could join, I just would not join.
So in conclusion, could we please have a provision for us time-pressed board game enthusiasts to be able to pick up the rules of BGA without being lumped in with the serial-game-quitting-idiots and thrown out? Even a ten game amnesty allowance would be enough.
Thank you and happy gaming!

Re: reputation or karma
There should be a balance between happiness of beginners and happiness of all players. Now BGA allows too much to beginners. If a beginner is able to quit from 10 games without penalties it will be definitely insane and ruin BGA.
Re: reputation or karma
I see the point about how it can be frustrating to more experienced players accommodating beginners and their mistakes, but newcomers have to start somewhere. That's just life.
And also I'm not really sure how being (in effect) shut out from further participation after ten games of "learning the ropes" is being lenient to beginners.

Re: reputation or karma
Well, you can't give red thumbs to beginners. And the new ELO system somewhat favors new players to a game since at the start you can't lose ELO anymore.
I do agree that beginners might need to learn how the site works and understand some ideas, and that perhaps they should more easily be given a second chance.
That said, you said yourself that you don't like people quitting Dominion on you. Do you really need to scour the forums and learn the rules to know you shouldn't just quit games, that it's just bad gamesmanship? If you had never played any games before, I might see this, but you know yourself what it feels like to have someone quit on you. So it's difficult for me to accept that you would not understand that coming here.
So given the circumstance that you are not new to online gaming, I'm having a bit harder time feeling sympathy. That doesn't mean you can't be given another chance. (There are game invites that do not have reputation requirements that you could join. At least the turn-based games.)
I also suspect people are not quitting because they're getting a laugh from it. In live games, people probably quit either because they are losing and falsely think they won't get the loss this way (or maybe just see no point to finishing), or because of disconnection problems, or didn't expect the game to take that long, or something. In turn-based, most people who quit do so early on and are usually new players that either left the site or didn't understand what turn-based meant. I really don't think people are doing it for the laughs.

Re: reputation or karma
Tangentially, one situation that continues to occur and at times (in past) crept over to the "give a red thumb or not" category is the closing of a game when opened if one does not want to play with whomever enters the game before starting.
This occurs (to me) infrequently, but when it does it is somewhat poor form to simply close the game once I (or others) arrive.
Once, ok. Four times, a bit much. You may have a condition (ELO, competitive rating, name you remember, etc.) supporting the action to close a self-opened game, but it would be courteous to mention to players who took the time to consider joining your game a brief "why".
This alone would limit numerous flames and red thumb situations that continue. Not a huge issue, but one that's still out there.
