Do some players get as much time as they want to play? I have been playing this game (#24751329) for 7 weeks now and the other player still has 4 days yet to think.

Re: Game time
in that setup you get 1 day per move. You start with 6 days then each time you make a move you get a day added (back up to a maximum of 6 days). So a game like stone age which requires 60-70 moves can take several months.

Re: Game time
Additionally, every player is awarded a limited number of time jokers (+4 days thinking time). However, no player can stop playing forever without penalty, unless the table was specifically set up with no time limit.
Re: Game time
A table with "unlimited" limit still has a time limit. It's just way longer. I think it's like 8 days per turn and, I don't remember, 20 or so days for a start time, which does give them a very long time to take a turn, but certainly not unlimited.
Re: Game time
hello. i have got another question about the game time. I have to add that I only play HIVE at the moment so I dont know about the options in other games.
is it possible to give us another choice of game time for HIVE between the "real time slow"- modus and the "2-moves-a-day"-modus? for me the real-time-modus with 7 minutes to think about the next move is much too fast. but the next slower option makes the games so very slow that they endure many many days without very much happening on the board. sometimes there is (i think so) even a whole day without any movement but also without penalty, although it is put on "2-moves-a-day-modus".
(please excuse my bad english
)
thanks for your answers and many greetings

Re: Game time
This is because the 2-moves per day is "thinking time per move," not total time available.Memona wrote:... sometimes there is (i think so) even a whole day without any movement but also without penalty, although it is put on "2-moves-a-day-modus".
Games are set up with two times. First, a maximum amount of time to think is given to all players. Then, an additional amount to think is given after every move. This additional amount is the 12 hours that represents the 2-moves-per-day. However, if the maximum amount has not expired yet, there is no penalty for not making a move.
For example. You get (I think) 48 hours of thinking time. Move 1 takes you 2 hours to make. You have ((48-2)+12) [[limit 48]] => 48 hours remaining. Move 2 takes 30 hours to make. You have ((48-30) + 12) => 30 hours remaining, but still no penalty. Move 3 takes 29 hours to make, giving 13 hours. Move 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8 are all done within 10 minutes. You will be back up to 48 hours of thinking time and never have a penalty.
Re: Game time
The time options are the same for every games (slow, normal and fast for real-time games), and there is indeed a big difference between the slowest real-time speed and the fastest turn-based speed. It's certainly because it's not the same way to play : people who play real-time games stay in front of their computer on the game page, while people who play turn-based games don't, they only come more or less frequently to see if they have moves to play in their games.Memona wrote:is it possible to give us another choice of game time for HIVE between the "real time slow"- modus and the "2-moves-a-day"-modus?
But from time to time, some people say they would be interested by other time settings between real-time and turn-based. The admins have thought about creating a faster turn-based setting, but the problem is we all need (and want
It would also be possible to add something like a "really slow" setting to real-time games, maybe this is what would be better for you and other people. But I don't know how much work it would need, and how many people would be interested, so I don't know if the admins would do that. Maybe if many people said they'd love it? I would use it sometimes, when I want to learn a new game quietly.
Another option for you is to ask on the forum or on the chat for people who would like to play hive with you at this pace, using a turn-based game but agreeing to play several moves an hour. But I'm not sure many people will answer.
Re: Game time
Yeah, I wondered about this, so I started a table of Hive just to make sure it's not doing anything differently for whatever reason. But it's just like everything else.fafa-fr wrote:The time options are the same for every games (slow, normal and fast for real-time games), and there is indeed a big difference between the slowest real-time speed and the fastest turn-based speed.Memona wrote:is it possible to give us another choice of game time for HIVE between the "real time slow"- modus and the "2-moves-a-day"-modus?
But... if we look carefully, it says something between "real time slow" and "2 moves a day" (turn-based), and there isn't anything in between these, no. The "real time slow" is the slowest live speed. And 2 moves a day is the fastest turn-based speed. So while other speeds do exist, they are all either faster or slower, not in between.
We once had a live unlimited speed, which is probably what you want, but that was done away with when the turn-based mode was created. There was some support to bring that back, so that you can play live but as slow as you like without penalty, either because you just want to be slow, or relax and chat, or take breaks, or whatever reason. I guess there was not enough support to bring that back, but I would support it. I just don't like having a clock running.
If you know others who would like to play this way, you can set it on 2 turns a day turn-based, but still play live. That is what I do with one friend. Actually, we set it on the turn-based unlimited, so that if something comes up that we can complete the game turn-based without concern. But we mostly do play live, just slowly. And we chat a lot.
Re: Game time
Turn based suggestion
This suggestion improve the game pace without undermining the player real life commitment.
Time setting: active period
Count down time to make a move: 1 hour
The count down time to make a move run during the active period.
active period occur rate: twice per day (24 hour)
active period minimum duration: 1 hour
active period duration per day: 6 hours
rest period occur rate: twice per day (24 hour)
rest period minimum duration: 8 hours
rest period duration per day: 18 hours
cycle (per day): active period, rest period, active period, rest period
If the player is due to make a second move during the same active period as the first move then the count down time will not run until the start of the next active period.

Re: Game time
Oh thank you all for answering. so I think I' ll just have to take it as it is and try to make some friends here with whom I can play a faster turn-based tempo
