Tutorials

Post by Glen211 »

I would like to see BGA develop tutorials for their games. I would be much more inclined to try more games if I could go through a tutorial instead of having to play someone when I am first learning a new game. Hxxxx Mxxxxx has tutorials and they seem to work very well. They take you through the basics then let you finish the game against a bot. That way you can learn a new game without getting other players angry because you may not fully understand the game yet.

Hi

Thanks for your message. Actually I agree to 100% of your message, and we are working on this for the near future.

I agree that tutorials and bots could be convenient, especially for complex games, but you can also join the Game tutors group, and ask for someone willing to play with a beginner (or you can even try to ask on the main chat).

Yes. I was just thinking this.

And you can play with other beginners, or near beginners, by making your own invite and then using the table restrictions to invite only Beginners, or maybe Apprentices as well. And turn ELO off so that a new game to you isn't messing with your ranking. Your Beginner ranking will show on the invite, and people will see that restriction, so it would be obvious what you're doing and no one has any good excuse to get angry that you're just learning the game. And if someone wants to get angry at a beginner, perhaps they should be restricting their own invitations... but we know things don't always work that way. Games can, by the way, also be restricted to a specific group if you're a member, so if you join Game Tutors (you don't have to be the tutor), you can also do that.

(And I agree the tutorials over at "HM" are pretty cool to have. ;) But they don't have many games.)

I would like to contribute a tutorial for a game (Quantum). Is there a way I can do that? Can I do this via the Studio? I'd love some help on getting started.

You may find useful informations if you go to the "Game Tutors" group page, and if you look in the "Recent activity" sections for two messages (and their comments) from Sourisdudesert that are about 80 days old. Let us know if you can't find these messages.
