A rule-balancing idea for Love Letter

Post by StringsAndVerses »

I request that an option be added in Love Letter that would allow the Priest to peek through the Handmaid to see that player's card.

The would help the game on two fronts. Many players consider the Priest the most annoyingly weak card in LL. Also, until the very end of the round, many players consider the Handmaid the most frustratingly powerful of all cards when their opponent plays it.

It even makes sense thematically. The Priest, not party to the intrigue of the Court, gains the trust of the Handmaid and she confides certain things to him she would otherwise keep tight-lipped about. :|

My suggestion brings about a win-win for both these points. The Handmaid will still protect it's player from elimination that round. And what is considered the weakest card in the deck will be slightly stronger without greatly overweighting it.

I know, for example, that Puerto Rico has a "Balanced Game" option at table setup, my suggestion here would be the "Balanced Game" option for LL.

Cheers!

Thanks.

You should suggest the idea to the game designer. We only implement variants that the game designer approve (in order to keep the spirit of the game).

How would one go about doing that?

If it were me, I'd first check out the discussions about variants on BGG just to see if anyone has suggested something similar, whether they've ever contacted the designer/publisher, if there's anything "official." But that's just me, especially since I'm not overly excited over the idea of ever making an official contact. To me it's always nice to see what others are saying.

And at the top it shows the designer, and the publisher's site is here https://www.alderac.com/.

Although I'm just fine with the game as is. There's definitely a luck element, and luck can always have its frustrating side. I've had things happen that were more frustrating.
