New stuff for turn-based players

Post by sourisdudesert »

We introduced 2 new time profile for turn-based : 3 moves per day (8 hours / move) and 4 moves per day (6 hours / move).

We think this is quite fast, especially for players that are in opposite timezones, so we don't want to introduce faster turn based for now.

In addition to this, we introduced some limits to turn-based play to prevent abusive play :
  • Now this is no more possible to be on more than 3 "waiting to start" tables of the same game at the same time (some players were creating +10 tables of the same game, making the lobby very difficult to read). You just have to wait for your tables to start to create new ones.
  • If it's your turn to play on a turn-based table for more than 15 minutes, you cannot create/join a new turn-based table (every player's priority should be to play on existing tables before joining new games).
  • We've limited the number of turn based games you can join according to your turn based experience on BGA : the more you played turn based games in the past, the highest is this limit. This prevent brand new BGA players to join dozen of tables and then leave the website.
  • We've limited the number of turn based games you can join according to your reputation (karma). This prevent players with bad reputation to join dozen of tables, and incite everyone to keep a high reputation.
Note : none of the previous limits are applied to tournament games.

I have to be honest that I still do not fully understand how the X move/day timings work. In some games they just seem to sit at some arbitrary number of days without altering.

I see that you have also disabled the ability to play any real-time games when it is a player's move on turn-based games. This is pretty annoying. Some games (e.g. Lost cities) the entire game in real-time takes less time than thinking about a single move in a more complex game (e.g. Logger). There is a reason why one plays some games turn-based and others real-time. The way you have it set up now, if I have ten minutes in the middle of the day to play a quick game of something, I can't do it, because it is my turn on some turn-based game that I possibly want to spend more time thinking about a single move and for which I have 8 days remaining on my clock. Ultimately this makes playing on here less fun.

I request that you restore the ability to play real-time games when you have turn-based games waiting, or at least make it so that the restrictions are on a game-by-game basis (so that one cannot join another table of the same game if one is holding up one table, but one can join a table of a different (quicker) game).

Thanks.

@Espina: What about this one for a restriction of real-time-games:

If it's your turn to play on a turn-based table for more than 24 hours, you cannot create/join a new real-time table.

Obviously this is a bug. It is going to be fixed within an hour.

Fixed. Realtime games are no more impacted by these changes.

This is explained when table begins. Example :
_ for a game with 1 move / day, it is displayed "6 days + 24h / move".
_ you starts with 6 days.
_ each time this is your turn, 24 hours are added to your time counter.
_ you can never have more than 6 days (initial time) of remaining time.

Also, thanks for all the other changes. Not allowing people to create dozens of tables of the same game is really nice as it really reduces the clutter on the gamelobby page

I would like that you restore the abilities to open more than 3 tables. As you don't allow us to play more than 2 players tournaments, we are creating our own 4 players Tokaido tournament and start tables for our group. I agree that we fill the lobby but players outside our group should not see these tables. Our tournament involve 20 players so 19 tables each.
Thanks
