There will probably eventually be some Carcassonne expansions here, and I would like to make this suggestion in advance, so that the devs are thinking about it during creating, rather than trying to fit it in after release:
For each expansion, allow the expansion to be on, off, or 'just the cards'. This last option would add in the crds for the expansion, but leave all the rules and other extra pieces out.
I'm not sure how popular this position is, but, personally I LOVE having lots of carcassonne cards with lots of the odd shaped roads and city bits on them, but I don't like any of the actual expansion rules. I prefer to include all the cards, but stick to standard rules. In my group, we shuffle all of the cards from the standard set and all of the expansions (except the rivers, of course), then randomly chose out the standard number of cards from among the piles. I'd love to be able to play that way on BGA, when the time comes for expansions.
