Well, maybe, but at now this system is the best trade-off we can imagine, and I didn't see on this forum any other good suggestion

I will chime in as a non-paying user who has been pretty active over the last few months (have probably averaged about 20-30 minutes per day).

The only thing that *nearly" persuaded me to become a paid-up member was the lure of ELO scores and game statistics. Once ELO became public (which felt like Christmas) all temptation to become a member disappeared over night. These waiting screens certainly don't tempt me to become a member (not least because I will continue to endure them even once I'm paid up) but they might tempt me to leave the site. My use has certainly declined of late.

Sorry if the explanation is unclear, but members NEVER "endure" these screens. As soon as you are a member, these screens disappear.

I took that to mean that members would endure the wait if playing with a non-member.

As a paying member (first because I wanted to keep seeing ELO, then because I just really liked this site) I do find it odd to punish people who don't want to pay. It's a very negative way of trying to get people to pay. In my opinion you should really only reward people who are member. It's always a better idea to try to convince people to do something by rewarding them then by punishing them.
It's a choice between being a positive website or a negative website.

Maybe you could add some more games to the premium catalogue?

We will.

However, the analyze the stats from the 4 last months showed us that this is not enough to make this service sustainable.

I think you can join two long standing discussions with the same answer :
You should give trophies and rewards to members only.
Some players want to be on the top of the list (even with cheating) : OK, then help the site. Become member and your name will be on the list!
Play freely as much as you want with no banner, no delay but no one except your friends will know you are one of the best player in the world! !!!

This is pretty much like the ELO things.

When we made ELO free, BGA got +20% more games/players. If we remove trophies/rewards/ELO/..., BGA will lose more than 20% of players.

You don't know for sure if every new player will go away if you remove the ELO. But in time I do think you will see less new players because of it.

I am curious how it will work out and I hope you will also provide us here with the new numbers after this change. I do hope you don't lose more non-paying players because of this. Allthough maybe you don't really care about that. Is it allright for you when you will lose 50% of non-paying players and gain 20% paying players?
