Suggestion Forum - per game?

Post by Victoria_La »

I am a game software developer (for bga) and I don't read this forum often because it mostly unrelated to my 4 games I support,
so I find this format on posting suggestion in random place rather weird (I think other people only read this because they want
to post something themselves).
What I propose is - unlock ability to post on group forum for the game (i.e. every game has
a group such as "Russian Railroad Players").
Such group has its own forum but only admin can post initial message there. So if we let players post there all other people who play this game will see it and may actually comment on it and more important game developer will see it too right away.

If something does not really need a discussion you can just open a Bug for a specific game (despite its name its a general issue tracking system which can track feature requests not just Bugs as all of them do). Developer suppose to monitor bugs, worse thing can happened they will just close it and say "Not going to happen".

I'm not following this part. At least some games have a group, yes. But they don't have a forum - they have a place to put comments. Is this what you're referring to?

Because I see some issues with that, if I'm interpreting it correctly. First, it's a very inconvenient way to try to have a discussion. Second, at one time we all automatically were members of every game we had ever played, and these all showed up in our groups in our profile, which got quite annoying to people who knew a lot of games. Apparently that is why it was taken away. And you don't see comments on those groups unless you're a member of that group. I'm a member of 3 groups, so my "latest activity" shows comments made on those groups and I see them. To see those comments on the individual games, I'd have to be a member of every single one of those, and then I'd be seeing all sorts of things I have no desire to look at and people would be inundated with stuff in "recent activity."

(And if that's not what you meant, just ignore that whole paragraph.)

However, I would think it would be easy to add an actual forum, here on the forums, for each game, or at least maybe more popular games with an extra for "all else." Create a new main forum, and then a sub-forum for each game. The sub-forums can be hidden until you go into the main forum. (Otherwise it would take up a ton of space.) Since this appears to be the phpbb... I've used this myself and creating forums and sub-forums is a piece of cake, so unless they've done something weird to it, this should be easy. (Except of course for the time it would take creating one for each and every game. Done slowly over time wouldn't be bad.)

The general idea is good. It would be nice to have a forum for each game. And not just for the sake of developers finding it.

A suggestion/request on this.

All games that have no posts yet are alphabetical. When a game gets a post, it jumps up to the top. That's understandable when it has unread posts. But then they stay up there even when those have been read and have no new posts.

I don't know if this is a nightmare or not, but could the "read" ones go back into the alphabetical list and not stay at the top? Once many of these have posts on them, there will not be many that are still alphabetical. For someone who knows a lot of games, that could become difficult finding a specific game.

This might be even more of a nightmare, but what would be really cool is an option. Like I could sort by "most recent post" and once I've read the new stuff, then put it back alphabetical, or what would actually be "original order."
