Vote on forum messages and close subjects

Post by Faedur »

Hello,

I would like to submit a casual idea in the forum discussions : the possibility to "rate" a comment with something like red or green thumbs or +1 / -1 ; we can see it in many forums on the web and I think it something useful to agree or disagree quickly with an idea and limit the number of posts that doesn't improve the discussion, then the number of "votes" should be visible on each message.

Actually an other idea is the possibility to close a subject by the member who opened it. It could be done just with the possibility of modifying the title and adding "closed". It would be easier then to check subjects when searching for something and see which one have been solved.

Probably there are so casual ideas that they have been already discussed or thought (I search before post that but find nothing) and there is only a problem to apply them with how the forum works for now. Sorry for troublesome if there is any.

Best regards.

I have never really been fond of doing +/- on posts. I don't really mind the thumbs up on BGG simply because that's more like saying "I like this post," just like you can like a geeklist or image or anything else. One issue I have with it is that you don't really know why someone is doing it. Just a green thumb or + doesn't necessarily mean total agreement with the idea - people might like a post for all sorts of reasons. Worse is doing a red thumb or - because it's even more difficult to know why someone does not like a post. This might not reflect on the idea given in the post at all, but something else someone does or does not like. I've never been convinced it's a good way to judge something or see if people agree with something. (And not everyone will necessarily even bother with it.)

Just posting and putting +1 I think works well enough, isn't that much trouble, doesn't require reprogramming anything, and you also know for sure they are saying "I like this idea."
