Bots?

Post by hache3 »

There is right now a lot of 6 nimmt tables marked as "two players", "first game on bga" created by new users (member since 03/21/2015) and from Taiwan.

It looks like somebody is testing some sort of bot.

Some of the tables are: 13024202, 13024210, 13024216, 13024219.

I noticed it too. It looks like they are bots : for exemple at the table 13051798, we played at 5 with 3 Taiwanese and it was their 1rst game on BGA. At the middle of the game they all 3 stop to play at exactly the same time.

It's really strange.

Now I can play 5 games at the same time, but for 3 in them some players (?) have not started (34238369, 34256411, 34291082).
I can't leave this games, just waiting 5 days... bye BGA.

Perhaps you could ask for some help in working around these kinds of problems. I'm sure saying "Bye BGA" makes you feel better, but you also need to look at what's causing the issues to begin with.

You'll eventually get to skip the turns of players once their time has gone negative. (Although sometimes it's a nice thing to be patient and see if they return, if they have a good reputation. Stuff does come up.)

There are ways to help avoid these situations as much as possible. First and foremost, look at someone's reputation, and even their profile if you want. Know that 75% can be a new player and that you really don't know anything about them. If someone is a fairly new member, the chances of them abandoning a game are greater. I hate saying that, because new members need to have a chance, but that is the reality of it. Look for tables that have restrictions so that low-reputation people can't join them. This is not going to solve everything, but if you're paying attention to this you should not end up with 5 tables that someone has abandoned - that sounds like bad odds.

You have several games that have many players on them - that increases the odds someone will leave the game.

I can tell you something else that will help, if people can not assume I'm trying to be a bigot. But before I started being way more careful about what games I would take, I noticed a good 50% of the games that were abandoned were someone in Taiwan. A huge chunk of the (turn-based) games of Incan Gold are put out by someone in Taiwan, often new members. Look who isn't taking their turn in your Incan Gold. The person over-time on the 1st 6 Nimmit is only one day late - that might just call for more patience, but also note they only joined Oct 13. Sometimes new people don't even understand what turn-based means so they just leave. Quoridor - not sure, maybe something came up, but that person is also fairly new. And lastly, the bottom 6 Nimmit - you can quit that one. Once someone else quits, everyone else can quit with no penalty, so just dump it. But notice the location of the person who has the negative time and started the problem. (I know of what I speak there.)

You will never go anywhere that doesn't have issues with a certain amount of people. Learn how to work around them. We can't avoid all the problems - it's nearly impossible - but a belief that another game site somehow avoids all problems would be fanciful thinking. But you could have avoided most of the problems in this set of games.

If you want, when you have the room, send me an invite (1/2 turn per day) and I promise I won't leave it, and you can get some reputation points. On occasion I can't get on here one day, but I don't abandon games, ever, like never, out of 240 games. (Nor do I ever run my clock down.) Of course, all we have in common is Can't Stop.

(I meant 1 or 2 turns per day, not a half turn per day. :P )
