"Bathroom Break" Ability and "Play with Computer" Options?

Post by Taytora »

Hello. I'm new to BGA and have tried to do some digging on these questions, but cannot seem to find any answers.

Saying I"m playing a game and need a long term (need to use the restroom, grab some water, whatever) -is there a way to pause the game or add a couple minutes to a single turn?

Let's say I want to play a game with a friend, but we enjoy certain games with 3-4 players, rather than just 2. Issue? We want to take our time and chat on Skype at the same time and don't want to worry about turn time limits. Can we set player 3 and 4 to a computer rather than play with other online users?

Thanks!

If you play with a friend or a private group you could set up the table turn based. If everyone stays at the table, the game works like a live game, with the difference that you have 5 days to go to bathroom instead of 5 minutes ;)

There is a huge programming difference between making sure a move is legal and making a good strategic move. The games on BGA are developed by volunteers, and there is little incentive to develop an AI in addition to developing the interface and rules enforcement. With the exception of Can't Stop, I know of no game that has a computer player available.

Also, let me rephrase your original question, to make sure I have it right:
"A friend and I want to play a game with a stranger or two, and we care so little about them that even the conversations we have will be on a different platform and not include them. Is there a way we can force them to wait?"
Did I miss anything in the rephrase? Hopefully that sounds as strange to you as it does to me.

That's such an absurdly dishonest straw man that I'm at a loss of words – could you please stop putting your serious misinterpretations into other folks' mouth here? The original post states that precisely because sharing the table in question with other human players could be awkward, a solution not involving other humans is being looked for.

That being said, the "Slow" configuration on most real-time tables should allow accumulating several minutes of break-time. The exact time depends on the game you're playing, though, and it's considered polite to at least inform the other players that you'll be idle for some minutes.

Thanks DrKarotte. We did figure the turn based setting out for our second game, which worked perfect for the 2 of us. Looks like that feature ("Bathroom break") isn't available normally though if I happen to want to play with other random people online.

Agree eoc. I'm not sure where in the world Jest Phulin was coming from. My brother and I are states apart but love to catch up while playing games. It's nice to go at our own pace in case we go off on a conversational tangent. Looks like we'll just continue with 2 player games, that way we don't impede other's game play (cause that's just the worst :) ).

Apologies. I was in a bad place mentally when I posted that (work stress that shouldn't be brought here.). Re-reading the original post shows I had a knee-jerk reaction, emphasis on the jerk. I'm sorry. Apparently I did miss something in the rephrase.

Hey, it happens. Appreciate the apology :)

Hope you were able to hope on and play a good game or two to blow off some work steam.
