Red Thumb expiration

I've had a user here since 2011 but had some internet connection issues a few years ago that caused me to "abandon" games or time out. This lead me to receiving many red thumbs and I eventually left the platform.
I've returned now (with a much improved internet connection) and so far have played games fully (I had one game where I left due to it getting stuck). I understand that I need to prove to the community that I'm a reliable player, but the system seems to limit me to 60% reputation due to those old red thumbs.
Shouldn't there be an expiration period for those votes?
I used do some of the translating and I'd like to continue doing so, but my rep needs to be above 80% and I don't see how that's going to happen.

I might be wrong, but I think the ratio of red and green thumbs is taken for the restriction, so you would have to collect more green thumbs, means: playing mostly against players you have not played against before. I think 6 Nimmt are good to collect green thumbs. Saboteur is the opposite.

I understand the system, but it means that if people don't give me green thumbs or red thumbs I'll remain at 60% rep forever.
Is this really what was intended?
I shouldn't be playing in an attempt to "collect green thumbs", I should be playing to enjoy while being courteous and playing fairly.

Advice : explain to other players your case, they will give to you green thumb after the game. And with 20 green thumb, it should be ok

I've actually tried it after you suggested it, but it feels so ridiculous having to beg for green thumbs.
Also, as far as I can tell it has not been successful. Is there a way to see how many green and red thumbs I have?

Bottom line, I still feel that red thumbs from several years ago should not be allowed to cap a players current rep.

So if I ever want to be able to get my rep over 60% and be able to do more translations, I'm going to need over 100 (!!) green thumbs.

Considering that in all my years here I've received less than 200, it looks like mission impossible.
Why am I still being punished for something that happened 4 years ago?

This is correct. However, the number of thumbs you have is related to how many games you've played rather than how long you've been on BGA, since you can give thumbs only to players you played with.

I can see another problem here. I don't really feel the need to give green thumbs any more. They lost their purpose after the number of thumbs had been hidden from players. One successfully played game without any problems doesn't seem enough to greenthumb everybody at the table and after a few games with someone I don't have to mark this player as nice, cause I remember them already. I'm not saying I would like to be able to see thumbs again, cause it used to cause frustration after finding a brand new red thumb out of nowhere. But there should be another way to gain your reputation back.

A couple of points here. One, maybe this is a reason for going ahead and leaving the green thumbs? (I personally would like to SEE the thumbs, because you're right that they somewhat lost their purpose.) I still leave thumbs even though they are hidden.

I also understand that one game doesn't really tell you about someone, but I still leave them as long as they didn't do anything "bad." (Meaning I leave them for most people.) If you play with them again and disagree with yourself, you are allowed to change it.

I agree that the thumb system is rather unclear, and thanks for bringing it up here. I would rather separate the red thumbs from the rest of the reputation score. I never know if someone is a known troll or just had connection problems for a day or two. Or in this case four years ago.
