Please remove the new jiggle of the time remaining for turn based games

Post by JCase16 »

This is a terrible change. It's distracting while playing a game and seems to serve no purpose at all... Please remove this. Or possibly is there a way i can remove it with custom CSS?

I agree - This is rather distracting and anyway very unnecessary.

what would be cool is if you can set the time for this to be enabled.
So if you set 1 day then it would only jiggle if the time left was less than 1 day.

0 days would also be an option to therefore turn it off.

Actually what I think would be amazing is if I could set the time for the "running out of time" alert to be emailed. It currently goes off with like one hour left. I wish I could increase mine a few hours.

Very distracting to me too. So much that I blocked the banner.

Hi everyone.

There is a very good reason to make this jiggle: a lot of you are complaining that the signs that tells you that it's your turn on BGA are way to discrete, in particular for those of you with the sound disabled (or not available - like on mobile), or when there is a lot of actions to do in your turn. When playing against such an opponent, you definitely want to make sure that he/she knows it's his/her turn, otherwise you are waiting... for nothing.

I know that a lot of you are using BGA for such a long time that you are familiar with every little things on the website and are fine with the current signs, but if you compare with other digital games you'll see that BGA "it's your turn" sign is still very discrete :)

However I agree that when you just load a turn based table, this is unnecessary. The effect will be removed in this case.

I just discovered it in real-time game, and it jiggles as soon as it's your turn, it's distracting as well.

Only jiggle when you waited too much

Please do not dumb down the site for the people that won't pay attention. The Pygmalion/golem effect is real -- lower expectations of player engagement often lead to lower engagement. (Besides, haven't you used the "we want players to be aware" argument to not automate games where players only have one choice, such as in the lottery in Stone Age, making everyone wait longer? :) )

a choice by the particular user -- they want not to be disturbed.

Then make this effect only available on mobile.

We do not want to be inconvenienced to "guarantee" an activity that the other person should be doing anyway. If we are waiting and believe the other person is unaware that it is their turn, we can state so in the chat -- which generate the visual cue (and in many cases an audio cue as well, if I remember the settings correctly).

Please do not resort to the lowest common denominator. I come to this site because BGA provides a superior experience. If this site was like all of the others, I would not need to come here.

What if it were made an option you can turn on? Also I think changing the color of an area of the screen would work better. Maybe the top bar changes to a different shade when it's your turn and stays that way until it is not.

I tried a realtime hotseat game, and the time countdown on the top bar/banner jiggled after any game/settings action.
This occasional movement within my peripheral vision only served to distract and annoy me.

The rotating hourglass is plenty already.
