Re: Reputation

Ive been a member for 4 years. During that time I had zero quit and probably zero time penalties. I play turn based not real time games nearly 100% of the time.

Lately I've been busy and a lot has been on, I've gone over time on my existing games. But obviously in 2 keyflower games people decided to kick me and maybe red thumb me. I find it weird that those games don't appear under the 'i' icon where games usually show up when ended. No notification at all.

Due to this I've lost 30% rep, which I find crazy. During the four years I've seen so many bad players who look like they bail on so many games and time out constantly yet I see them at 90-100% rep.

I see over time my rep will go back up it just seems a bit mental that a couple bad days 'ruins' four years of PERFECT play.

@Grizzlyface

To avoid a scenario like yours you have some holiday time jokers:

> "Use a time joker" You have 4 remaining holiday time jokers this year (+4 days of thinking time).

You find a button and above text on https://en.boardgamearena.com/#!gameinprogress

If you are too busy, you should at least take a joker before running out of time.

You are allowed to take it on any reason, it has not to be holiday. ;-)

@dudi2 Thanks, I am aware of the Jokers but the nature of the things going on BGA just wasn't at the forefront of my mind.
I just didn't realise the reputation system was so short term orientated and actually doesn't care about an overall players conduct long term. The fact I can just go and get 1% back per game (I think) means it's not a big deal either.

Not sure there is even a point to it then really. If players avoid me now because of my 'rep' all they are actually avoiding is a near perfect player because of one relatively very short term patch of bad performance. Everyone else's loss to be honest.

Hello BGA,
I have a bad reputation (57%) since one week because I was late for several games due to bad and problem connection to internet... It decrease very fast...
I am a good player, VIP gamer, and I respect the time for the games...
it's very hard to increase it now...
Thanks to read me... it's just a remark...
Have a nice day,
Fred

Ha down to 30% rep now I'm a big BAD. Simply because the last few games I was in and had been out of time people decided to eject me / skip turn despite I was still playing just slowly over that time. Then due to the time limit between me 'leaving' games you get extra penaltys.

What a load of total shit tbh. A few bad games which I didn't even quit just took longer than I should have plunges a 4 year perfect rep account to 30%.

Yet you get all sorts of ways you can't red thumb somebody no matter how bad their attitude is if it's their first time at the game, or even worse some utter crap like you can't give out more red thumbs then green or too much time has elapsed or a multitude of other pissant reasons. Stopping you from giving a red thumb to THE WORST players ever.

Yet have a small blip over a couple days and bang down to 30% rep you go. What a joke.

And not only that but EVERY player bar 1 from the last 2 keyflower games that I 'left' by getting my turn skipped have MULTIPLE time outs PLUS a few game abandons each in some cases. Yet are ALL on 100% REP (1 is 95%)

You have a 20 second warning. Do something. Don't let it run out.

Not sure if that was to me, my first post specifically mentioned I play turn based only not real time. If not to me then nevermind.

Pretty sure that was to you.

But... I actually can somewhat see why you're upset, if I'm interpreting some things correctly. (And I fully admit there might be something I'm not seeing.) You have two games of Keyflower you've been kicked on, where you are 23 and 28 hours over time. That to me is someone being impatient, especially since those games started back in October - if someone has been playing regularly for two months, it does seem very impatient to skip someone who is 1 day behind on time. That would actually tick me off if I were in the game, because then everyone else ends the game in a tie. (I see others are quitting those games now, so it seems very much a waste of two months.) There is one where you're at -6 days, and looking at the game log I can't figure that one out, but at the time you got skipped, it wasn't that much time since the last player took a turn. (At -6 I could see the point, but that's one game.) Unfortunately, technically, you're at fault. I just think some people skip people too easily.

But this game:
https://en.boardgamearena.com/#!table?table=44964654
This one is in your finished games. You got skipped when you took about 4 days. There are two reasons this is a bit stupid. One is that the person who skipped you did not take a turn for about 4 1/2 days, twice! How do they have any right to skip over you? (It makes one wonder if they were badly losing and liked the idea of getting that tie, but I know nothing about this game.) The other stupid thing is that this was a 1 turn a day game, started back in October before this "fast turn based" thing just came about, and the game is now set for 3 days extra time. So you effectively lost days due to that and would have gone over time much faster. (Yes, I'm going to use every opportunity I can to complain about changing speeds in the middle of games.)

Thank you for taking the time to look into my games and comment. I'm not sure about the 4 and 6 days. The timer is cumulative isn't it? So it was going over my time to the tune of 4 or 6 days over time not straight? As I definitely didn't leave any game for that duration in one go.

Those 2 keyflower games were from before, when I basically went over on all the games I was playing. But people carried on and they were nearing their end, sometimes I think people will also quit if it looks like they won't win. I was quite strong in most of the games I was playing.

Whats annoying is once you are over time even if you come back and start playing within time it still shows as overtime and people can skip you later, at least I think that's how it works. Honestly I'm not 100% on it as until now it's never been a problem for me. Personally if someone is over time but still playing from day to day I won't skip their turns.

Added to that the fact that nearly all players in those games have also been over time or left lately in games of their own or the same games it shows the system is broken, especially since I'm on 30% and they are on 95%+.

Either way nothing I can really do about it, just felt like having a rant about it :)

You're right that the time over is not necessarily "straight" in a row. Just for ease of numbers, let's say you have 10 hours per turn, plus a start time (the extra time) of 50 hours. The 10 hours will be added on as soon as it's your turn. So you miss a couple of days and run your extra time down to 5 hours. Then when it's your turn, 10 is added on, so you now have 15 hours. Then you're a little late on the next turn and you're now down to 2. Etc. If you never get yourself back up to the 50 start time, you're perpetually short on time. So at some point that goes negative and you are now -10 hours behind. If you miss days several times, you can keep going backwards, so it can accumulate, yes.

But, you can make that time back up too. So if you dropped down, but next time you get 10 hours added back on for your turn, and you happen to be around and take that turn in 1 hour, you gain that time back. So it's very possible to get back up to that initial 50 if you take some turns quickly. If you know you went over and need to gain some time back to get positive, see if you can slip in a couple of turns rather quickly and see if that helps. (I think once you're positive, no one can boot you anymore.)

(This might not be quite exactly how it works, but this is the idea. And I know you can get back to the original start time cause I see that frequently.)
