New Profile Stat: Average time to make move.

Post by RicardoRix »

Hi.

Can BGA implement a new statistic on a players profile page.
'Average time to make move'

I believe this statistic can be formed from a similar looking statistic that is displayed at the end of each game :
Thinking time 6h12 6h30
Number of turns 11 11

Most for turn-based games as this will give a very good indication of how often a player plays on the website.
A lot of people play very quickly but have very relaxed moves per day settings on their tables. Which is really not a problem for me how relaxed they are, but I would like to know before hand what kind of time they will be playing. Often they may have the default 1 move per day, but actually play far more frequently.

So to go with the new 'fast-turn' based games and offering many more options for setting up the table, is it possible to also improve the experience for the players joining tables as well?

While this information may be useful, I think a label of time to make a move is misleading. If I play a game of Quarto (a game that typically requires about 8 moves per player) over 8 days, that's clearly 1 move per day. But then if I play a second game real-time, did I suddenly make 2 moves per day, since I made 16 moves in 8 days?

Perhaps a statistic of logins per day might be a better indicator. Or, if more craziness is desired, there was one website I was on that kept track of the times of all logins, and presented a graph of when each player was most likely to be on.

Just turn-based games.

Real-time would not make much sense, since 6-Nimmt is obviously faster to play than chess. And also this is not really a consideration when joining a table.

This was suggested elsewhere and was shot down, because how often or how much someone is logged in doesn't necessarily say anything about how fast they are taking turns. For one thing, the more games someone has going at one time, the more they would need to be logged in. Or what about people who just sort of stay logged in. Or what about time they're spending reading rules, or just looking around, or translating something, or reading the forums, or maybe playing a tournament that might throw off those stats, or who knows what else.

(I've been logged in about two hours now and haven't taken one turn... because I haven't had many games going and there were no turns up, I was looking at available games, and then looking at bug reports, and finally came here. So being logged in isn't really saying much.)
